We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A pal has been traveling across the US with family in an antique camper. He reports that they had possibly the best dinner they have ever had in the US at The Windsor Hotel in Del Norte, Colorado. Not likely that you would be passing through there, though.
Sounds like a good place to visit after a day of hiking in and around Great Sand Dunes National Park. You can earn that dinner by making your way to the tops of the dunes. One of my favorite places to spend a day.
I also recommend going to nearby Zapata falls to cool off a bit after climbing the dunes.
I have to warn you that the worst hotel I ever stayed at is just east of there in Walsenburg.
