We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When crossing a threshold, am I really supposed to drop the door in the face of the person behind me just because they are male? Isn't that rude???
I hold the door for everyone. It's called common courtesy.
Also? As a Yankee, I have places to go and things to do...this means I am not going to walk up to a doorway and then just stand there, my arms hanging limply by my sides, waiting for a male to open it for me. How silly.
Here's what I have learned in life - treat everyone you meet with courtesy and respect, and 90% of people will return it to you.
The last 10% of people are incorrigibly rude, male and female, and when you encounter them it is best to simply smile, ignore their lack of manners, and keep moving.
