Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Gender confusion. There was a psychology researcher two decades ago who contended that many men who wanted to sex-change did not actually think of themselves as women, but did find it exciting to picture themselves as women (if you get the distinction). He was booed off the stage by activists at the APA convention. He was not allowed to present before that August Body. It undermined their narrative that they actually were women, to have it presented that they got off on the idea of picturing themselves as a woman. Autogynephilia, it's called. I just looked up the update, and it's Ray Blanchard, still in business. You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogynephilic
I don't say that this applies to all transgender men-to-women. But when you observe or listen to some of them, it seems to fit. Needless to say, the transgender community rejects this framing. It harshes the mellow of their narrative. And that's considered, now, un-American.
Frankly, I find I can't really discuss "transgender" issues.
I just can't stop thinking these folks are mentally ill. The Sitting Bull story......does anyone else think Tatanka Iyotaka sounds like a character in Shogun?
the 19th century press parodied his name to "slightly recumbent gentleman cow".
A/C is not sexist. Women feeling the need to dress skimpily for the office are. A/C is a power thing, however. When I was stationed in Seattle, all the bosses from the head off the office on down had offices on the perimeter with windows. I had an interior office with an additionally cooled computer room. I wore sweaters and sweatshirts in the summer and dressed so I could layer down to very light in winter. The thermostats were all in the perimeter offices, or were the sun made it hot in summer and the windows made it cold in winter. Thus the A/C blasted in summer trying to reverse "global warming" and the heat blasted in winter trying to reverse "global cooling".... for the bosses. Us peons had to adapt for suffer.
So _ _it still runs downhill. I've been wondering about that, having retired 25+ years ago.
RE Male Feminist: ‘I Hate That I Love to Grill’ Because It’s ‘So Conventionally Masculine’
A. 300 Q. On a scale of 1 - 10, how gay is Jacob Brogan? >You don't actually need to drink 8 glasses of water a day
Some of us don't actually need or listen to what others are telling us what to do. I work outside, husband works outside, my daughter works outside in the elements- in hard physical labor. we drink how much we think we need. Salt also. I salt liberally. Salt is good. Arrest me. >I'm really glad I grew up a tomboy before all this gender confusion stuff came into vogue. Yep. Me too. we have three daughters and one worried me a bit. She went through a phase where she insisted on wearing only dresses (she was about 3). At least she looked nice with her muck boots padding around the cow manure in the barn. Thankfully she grew out of it, and never went in to an "everything has to be pink" phase. >This Week in Progressive Lunacy: Air Conditioning is Sexist Then don't use it. Then don't work in an office. How bout you quit whining over the modern conveniences that make your civilized life posh and spoiled. That gives you time to whine and bitch about every little thing you take for granted, never considering or appreciating the dirty jobs people who make your life of ease possible. AC might just disappear (or only be for elites who can afford it) as the coal industry is also disappearing and won't be supplying cheap energy much longer. >Male Feminist: ‘I Hate That I Love to Grill’ Because It’s ‘So Conventionally Masculine’ The obvious solution is to go castrate yourself. too many people have too much time on their hands. I wore dresses for much of my girlhood - with matching pinafores. Loved them all. Never stopped me from playing kickball on the playground or hanging upside down on the monkey bars (although Mom would not have been pleased).
I didn't reach my "everything has to be pink" phase until I hit my forties.....actively disliked the color and avoided it at all costs. Turns out to be a favorable color for older skin. I prefer the Stamford Stepford look for women.
"How Obama’s Poor Judgment led to the Chinese hack of OPM"
Everytime I hear of a hack where anything of signifcance is compromised I am just amazed that anyone thought this information would be safe while connected to the internet. If the data is important, secret or sensitive it does not belong on the internet, period. Even less important data should be better protected so that a hacker cannot get to it. When this happens people should be fired and policies should be reviewed and changed. It wasn't a hack, it was treason.
"Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity Dr. Andy Ozment testified that encryption would “not have helped in this case” because the attackers had gained valid user credentials to the systems that they attacked—likely through social engineering. And because of the lack of multifactor authentication on these systems, the attackers would have been able to use those credentials at will to access systems from within and potentially even from outside the network." http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/06/encryption-would-not-have-helped-at-opm-says-dhs-official/ As Wretch at Belmont Club says, "“Social engineering” for those that don’t know, is an IT security term for “someone gave them the password” http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2015/06/17/social-engineering/#more-43720 For obvious reasons, most people don't know that classified systems are intranets; you can't just go merrily chasing down a compartmented classified government site through the Internet, you actually have to be on the inside.
Neither Assange nor Snowden did any fancy hacking to get at that classified material. Assange got the US diplomatic traffic through Pte Bradley - er, sorry - Chelsea Manning who had access to US secret systems. Snowden had access to US compartmented top secret systems. They both simply downloaded the stuff. High-tech systems, sure, but actually it was just good old-fashioned espionage, document theft in digital form. Instead of walking out of a secure facility with a briefcase full of sensitive paper documents, Manning and Snowden walked out with memory sticks. John Oliver Slams Mandatory Minimums
congress passed that law enhancing sentences. the feds punish criminals who are armed during their crimes as a way of deterring criminals from carrying guns. because, maybe, the government doesn't want people being shot and killed during any crime. I'm just guessing here. he was punished five years for the first offense and 25 years for each subsequent offense because he had a gun. some dirtbag lost the sentencing lottery and got bitchslapped. so what's the problem? ProTip: don't carry a gun and commit federal crimes. Things are getting weird with regards to the whole LBGTQ presence in our society. The CDC did an intensive survey a few years ago to determine the actual percentage of gay and bisexual people in society - this was a large-scale meta -analysis done by a carefully appointed group of people, many of whom were gay. (Full disclosure: I had a friend on this committee.)
This is what they found: "The overwhelming majority of adults, 96.6 percent, labeled themselves as straight..." http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/health-survey-gives-government-its-first-large-scale-data-on-gay-bisexual-population/2014/07/14/2db9f4b0-092f-11e4-bbf1-cc51275e7f8f_story.html Does it seem to anyone here that 97% of the people and characters represented in the mainstream media are heterosexual? Is it general knowledge nowadays that only 3% of the population identify as gay? It seems to me that about 20% of characters nowadays in TV and movies are represented as gay - in other words, gay people are represented about seven times as often as they actually exist in society. Not to clutch my pearls, but it seems to me that this (deliberate?) misrepresentation of the prevalence of being gay could cause a lot of confusion among impressionable youngsters. It seems to me like kids today are being lied to, and in my opinion that is not a good thing. My partner and I are ultra-liberal and we are having concerned conversations about this between ourselves....we would love this to be a more public conversation, but it doesn't seem like there's any way to talk about this without bringing down the loonies from both sides hurling accusations and shutting down the conversation before it even begins. Any suggestions? I don't worry about it. hormones are a lot stronger than hollywood. if there are only 3% freaks out there in spite of years of over representation in the media, its because the media's influence is way overstated.
kids find anything that shakes up the parents as chic. it's just rebellion. its what kids do. if they vote a transwhatever as prom queer, its because they know dad and mom will go apoplectic. but when it comes down to actual dating, guys are going to be totally repelled by gays, as is normal. girls, maybe a little experimentation in college. if 97%+ of the population is normal, its because we're programmed that way by genetics. gayness is obviously an evolutionary dead end, 'mos exist because of some genetic defect in the human genome that's just harmless enough to not get totally weeded out. you and your partner ought to be more worried about the inevitable backlash against gays, when that day comes, and come it will, if you don't rein in the thought kriminal political correctness policing of things like cake bakers. "kids find anything that shakes up the parents" - unfortunately, today, there are too many parents, teachers, and other "professionals" who will seize upon such manifestations as reason to thrust the rebellious kids into therapy, hormone treatment, and gender reassignment.
We're watching the grandbrats, presently all very young, which is great fun. But we are all giving them room to express their personalities, without defining various behaviours as either indicating they are "male" or "female", regardless of actual genetics. And we are seeing a mix of behaviours in them all; regardless, we know who are boys and who are girls. I am convinced there is some Obama administration directive to the American media industry requiring that in every TV program, one or more characters MUST be gay or lesbian. It's gotten to the point where my wife and I actually play a game seeing who will recognize the homosexual characters first. Just last week we were watching some post-apocalyptic drama where two women military characters are stranded trying to defend themselves from evil, and right on cue one says, "this reminds me of the old days when we were together." We're at the point where we actually start laughing, it's so obvious what the agenda is.
When I last worked in a factory they gave me superhuman strength too - with a forklift, torque wrenches, and other tools.
An excellent point. Technology has been making us "superhuman" since the wheel, fire, and domestication of animals. Then we get used to it and think it's normal. Flying. Talking to people on the other side of the world. This is a new iteration of an old theme.
Insurer Merges: "How all this will shake out is far from clear. But one thing is: When everyone is supersizing, it's not hard not to suspect that you've been assigned the role of "tiny mortal standing between Godzilla's toes." " That is a perfect simile.
Women who dress for the summer weather outside and expect the weather inside to be exactly the same, must also keep their heavy coats and woolens on when they come inside in the winter. If they want to be consistent. They don't. Nor do some men. I suspect the men are more likely to suffer in silence. Liberals worry that workers with specialized skills make more money: Their Liberal brains will last longer, being unused. Why Obama blames the right for everything: Well, he can't blame himself! He's just sooooooo perfect. Arab Immigration To Historic Palestine: They came in part because it was better there, and came to resent the previous inhabitants. (Kinda makes me think of our new "immigrant" population. |
