We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I think of version of Uber would do very well in smaller communities / rural communities that don't have access to taxis. Especially places with a lot of elderly. Most likely you would not have the backlash that is happening now in some of the bluer cities.
If I were Uber, instead of battling the idiots in L.A. or Paris, I would flourish where I was wanted.
My semi retired brother in law works for the state of Vermont giving rides to elderly and handicapped people. Just like Uber, he's an independent contractor, paid by the mile, using his own car (generic Subaru, no special 'handicap' equipment).
