Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Jelly


A Bird Dog daughter and I made a couple of large batches of hot pepper jelly on Friday. Doggone it, they failed to gel despite plenty of pectin.

We wanted to make a ton of Rhubarb jam on Saturday but we ran out of sugar and Mrs. BD needed to control the kitchen for a double family birthday party. Poached salmon, etc. Anyway, people gnawed on my raw Rhubarb stalks. Delicious and stringy. The Rhubarb I salvaged from Mom's garden is going great guns and, racially, we are the Rhubarb People.

I saw on a YouTube version of Stephen Fry's "QI" ("Quite Interesting") BBC show that there's a so-called "Rhubarb Triangle" in West Yorkshire where they force Rhubarb stalks in dark rooms. It actually was quite interesting.
