We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
More and more decisions, from the music business to the sports field, are being delegated to data. But where does that leave our intuition? With stories about John Hammond. Among others, he discovered Billy Holiday, Benny Goodman, and Bob Dylan.
I can hit the windshield of a fast-moving car with a snowball, but I can't do the math of it.
Well, I actually could do the math, but it would do little to improve my ability to hit the windshield. Knowing the exact time, speed, and direction to throw doesn't mean I could achieve that any better than I could based simply on my internal judgement of the relative motion (and it doesn't take me 5 minutes of working out the equations!) Our ability to perform tasks like this is really quite amazing.

My cat can jump and catch a flying bug in her forepaws. Same thing as the snowball-car thing backwards, or mirror image, or something.
