Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Postponing Life:
Without a robust middle class, Who is going to be the Taxpayer, Who is going to be the Consumer? Who is going to commit to a Mortgage, or an Education, or a Major Purchase, without some confidence in a reliable, steady, long term income, aka job security?? Who is going to get married and have children? Doesn’t the contraction of mid level skilled jobs, suitable for the middle class, factor in? Sure, a Google creates revenues ($1M per employee), but jobs not so much Similarly it would be good to separate out the gains made by the financial sector, which, in the views of some, is not contributing to growing the real economic pie. As Gerald Epstein, an economist at the University of Massachusetts has said: “These types of things don’t add to the pie. They redistribute it—often from taxpayers to banks and other financial institutions.” There is a lot of piggybacking on the real wealth created by others. I think of it as an upside down pyramid with the real wealth generators on the bottom. Small to medium size businesses who could still be categorized as entrepreneurial face as much volatility and uncertainty as the typical wage earner. How does this not impact employment , risk taking and investment? Nobody says that this is a new phenomenon, rather that it is accelerated. Per the Deloitte Shift Index: company life span. Greater management turnover. Falling return on assets. Declining Innovation. Declining trust in brands. Less job security. The baffling appeal of ISIS:
Their videos are allegedly recruitment tools. Did the Reich produce equivalent recruitment films along the lines of, “ Come, lets destroy, rape, enslave, and crucify grammar school children together. Join us, and embrace your inner violent, depraved perv(pedaphile) self?” Contrast that with Western recruitment which is about adventure, testing yourself, service, chivalry, character, and humanitarianism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbfPj00pTNY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeJFHuEt8fA http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=go+army+recruiting+commercial&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=9DDFBF2E1F4D6C87C3819DDFBF2E1F4D6C87C381 http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=royal+canadian+recruiting+commercial&FORM=VIRE3#view=detail&mid=0DE9688448B2B79A28400DE9688448B2B79A2840 http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=australian+defense+forces+recruitment+video&FORM=VIRE14#view=detail&mid=F5BBFD0DF746F87447F2F5BBFD0DF746F87447F2 http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=israeli+defense+force+recruitment+commercial&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=14530A17F0912DBED18614530A17F0912DBED186 OR IS IT THIS? “Aldous Huxley, another smart Brit, got a lot right about the future. For taking the time to email that "Gettysburg" was out in BluRay when that film could not have been made without the contributions of the reenactors that outfitted entire Confederate Brigades including battle flags.
I got this reply (I swear to God!) Hello, I understand you want Amazon to stop sales of “Confederate flag-themed stuff” from its online store. We are getting lots of complaint regarding to this issue and I would like to assure you that Amazon is pulling Confederate flag-themed merchandise from its online stores soon. I've reported this to our concerned team, and they're working on taking care of it. Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. And signed, Best regards, Shiwangi S So they are counting my complaint as support for what I was complaining about. It would be funny if it wasn't so sick. It sounds like a rob-response; They most likely assumed that anyone sending a note or email with the words "confederate flag" or "rebel flag" or whatever would be in favour of removing it. So, they programmed their computer to respond as if that was the case and never did an actual human read your message.
Perhaps, such as false assumption and not actually reading your message are in themselves good reasons to shop elsewhere. However King was decided, the future of American health care was going to come down to 2016. I have C-note that says if the republicans win in 2016, Obamacare will have changed little by 2020.
"White schools are harmful to our students of colour"
This is about power and money. Taking control of the culture and getting the government to redistribute money to the aggrieved. It most certainly is not about the students or education. The best possible thing that can happen to people of colour (odd/ironic that the author chose the British spelling of 'color') would be to embrace the white/european culture as it relates to education. The black (opps, I mean people of colour) version of culture is antithetical to learning and education. Acting white may be verboten by people of colour but it is exactly THAT which has caused the poverty and crime in the communities of 'colour'. If we continue to accept and encourage this failed theory generations of people of colour will suffer. BUT, the good news is that activists of 'colour' are doing pretty good with this scam. It should be noted that Charles I was one of the most consequential kings of England.
They've done a pretty good job of keeping Democrat history off the internet. I did some Google searches trying to find quotes/videos of slavery apologists and segregationist to put alongside the Oregon school's "white privilege" material. It's not really out there, although I know I saw an old film of some Democrat speaking as to why Blacks weren't equal back in the 1950 that sounded a lot like the "white privilege" material.
A very nice summation of the political parties pre-Civil War by Col. Ingersoll in a lecture on Lincoln:
QUOTE: Both of the great political parties were controlled by greed and selfishness. Both were the defenders and protectors of slavery. For nearly three-quarters of a century these parties had control of the Republic. The principal object of both parties was the protection of the infamous institution. Both were eager to secure the Southern vote and both sacrificed principle and honor upon the altar of success. At last the Whig party died and the Republican was born. This party was opposed to the further extension of slavery. The Democratic party of the South wished to make the "divine institution" national while the Democrats of the North wanted the question decided by each territory for itself. Each of these parties had conservatives and extremists. The extremists of the Democratic party were in the rear and wished to go back; the extremists of the Republican party were in the front, and wished to go forward. The extreme Democrat was willing to destroy the Union for the sake of slavery, and the extreme Republican was willing to destroy the Union for the sake of liberty. Neither party could succeed without the votes of its extremists. This was the condition in 1858-60. BTW, from the same lecture, I always find this excerpt amusing in its description of college: QUOTE: Lincoln never finished his education. To the night of his death he was a pupil, a learner, an inquirer, a seeker after knowledge. You have no idea how many men are spoiled by what is called education. For the most part, colleges are places where pebbles are polished and diamonds are dimmed. If Shakespeare had graduated at Oxford, he might have been a quibbling attorney, or a hypo- critical parson.
