Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

He: The country seems to be going nuts. I've never heard so many stupid things lately.


Me: Well, bear in mind that 50% of Americans have IQs under 100.


He: Is it that high? Gee, well that explains a lot.

However, it probably doesn't hurt to remember that those above that mean are the ones who generally end up running everything.

I don't think there is any empirical evidence of that, especially in the government, political and higher education sectors.

Actually, the 100 mean is for whites only. If you factor in blacks and Hispanics (27% @ 85) and Jews and East Asians (4% @ 110), the population average IQ for the US is about 96, and about 62% of the American population has an IQ less than 100.

Correct in principle, though I think the numbers are a little different: 115, 105, 100, 92, 85.

Something fun for you to ponder, Bob. If you divide it up Verbal, Math, Spatial, Jews clock in at 122, 114, 99. No advantage on that last category, but even more advantage than expected on the first. 122 is huge.
