We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A few years ago, I was driving with the kids. Tangled Up in Blue came on the radio. At the time I think the song was 35 years old, as opposed to the 40 years of today. I told the kids that I could listen to Tangled Up in Blue everyday. I then asked them if they could name a song that was currently popular that they liked that they might be listening to in 35 years... They both agreed that there was little that they currently like that they thought had staying power.
Anyway, long way around to my point... My now 21 year old daughter has the entire Dylan catalog. One of her faves is Visions of Johanna. She's still at home, going to Directional U. and majoring in math. I hear the song often coming from her room, along with Tangled Up in Blue. I like it very much myself.
I think being able to tell someone that this song is one of your favorites, marks you as at least a half serious Dylan fan.
Ghosts in the trees, there's ghosts on the wires,
asking questions and showing signs.
Shivering with truth they're lighting fires,
lighting fires all down the line.
