Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The cops are playing a deadly political power game. Rather than deal with crime in a way consistent with the Constitution, they just pull back and actually function to aid crime in targeted areas.
There's a reason why the founders put real limits on the government, but many of our cops don't want that. They want more Stasi like powers, to intimidate anyone they damned feel like. And when it hits the fan they close ranks and defend each other, just like gang members As far as I'm concerned, this is not a race issue (many of the victims of poice abuse are white) --it's an abuse of power. The more power one has, the more corrupt one becomes. You CAN do real police work without trampling freedom, http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=fe4_1434086547
And that is one of the milder vids I've seen lately. Then the cops pulling back from harassing citizens over "broken window" crime is a good thing?
If they are all power drunk, then the safest thing for the populace is to limit law enforcement to the big felonies and drop the quality of life crimes, right? There's a reason why the founders put real limits on the government, but many of our cops don't want that.
you're going to be surprised to learn, because they don't teach this on NCIS or the X-Files, that there is no national police force and that cops are the creation of state governments. missing from The Andy Griffith Show was the lesson that state governments have what are ironically in this case called "general police powers", meaning that there're not limited to specific grants of jurisdiction in the way the federal government is by Article I of the constitution. Hawaii Five-O did a mediocre job of explaining that some federal constitutional rights like due process, right to counsel, right against self incrimination have been applied to limit the conduct of state/local police forces. But you should know, from every police procedural that CBS ever produced, that it's corruption in the police commission, chief of police office, and rogue cops that is the source of your rant. these are creations of the state government. For a further explanation, watch any TV or movie starring Elliot Ness. every example in that story involved badly managed or lead local police forces cite any example of police wanting Stasi-like powers. when and where is this alternative universe where police can do "real police work" "consistent with the Constitution"? these are not rhetorical questions. power=corruption. holy shi'ite let that BS phrase go. that's what every teenager and parking lot attendant thinks. All constitutional restrictions on police activities apply to state and local governments as well. Thanks to the 14th

that's axiomatic. but the constitution doesn't prevent ineffective police leadership. policing is a local or regional issue. if there's a corrupt cop or a cop who isn't doing his job, it's not because of or in spite of the constitution.
when post 1 claims the cops want to be like Stasi*, its hard to take the rant seriously. no, in fact, it's impossible to take it seriously. * atten. Ten. Stasi was the East German internal security service. now you don't have to crib wikipedia. In Hawaii 5-0, remember that the governor (later found to be in cahoots with and murdered by criminal master-mind Wo Fat), purported to give McGarrett and the rest of the 5-0 team "absolute immunity," which means they didn't have to worry about such things as the Bill of Rights, Due Process, Equal Protection, and all that nonsense. Certainly makes the plot lines simpler and move more quickly, since they don't have to worry about any of the niceties. Apart from the usual violations of rights, actually my favorite plot line is when the 5-0 team stole millions of dollars of drug money from the evidence room (for a good cause, mind you), and there have never seemed to be major repercussions in that, let alone someone raising the argument that the case is no longer good because of tampering with the chain of custody.
Was grabbing a coffee at Starbucks across the street from my office in Manhattan, with a client, when he suddenly grabbed me and said "Isn't that Kate Upton?"
Sure enough, she was in line purchasing a cup. Manhattan is pretty cool that way. I was 20lbs over the limit, I got baraged with diet info.Diets don't work. If they did, we'd have tons of snikny people running around. Instead we have more and more fat people. Now while I know not everyone is genetically programmed to live their life looking like a linebacker as I am, not everyone with extra poundage is unhealthy. Genetics play a big part, as well as other health issues.Btw SGT Teddie - Most fat people don't eat 5000 calories. I know a lot of fatties, and I was definately "OBESE" for several years. During my most obese times, I kept a journal of the foods I ate, how much I ate, what I ate, how much I still gained. For 6 months, I ate no more than 1500 calories a day. I worked on my feet walking around all day for 10 hours a day/40 hours a week. I still gained 10 lbs. When I went to buffet, I would eat a bit of meat, a ton of salad (all greens btw I can't stand croutons or meat stuff in my salads), and maybe a couple cookies if I felt brave. While all my snikny friends, would load up on mac & cheese, fried things, tons of meats, loaded baked taters, and huge slices of cakes and ice cream to top it off. There are some fat people who compusively try to kill themselves by eating, like a smoker tries to kill himself by smoking. But a lot of the "fatties" are just that way despite all their efforts.
Oh, my. Have you seen this? The pres. of the Spokane NAACP may have been pretending to be black:

RE: Shouldn’t People Be Allowed to Love Who They Want?
Other questions we receive, especially from members of the press, are from those who can’t quite understand why Christians can’t just “evolve” with the growing cultural consensus. because almost evolution leads to dead ends. for a great story, check out the link on that page to the Marine and his bride. When the government claims they can pass "secret" laws, they should be opposed on principle, whatever the law may say.
