Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re: the Met gala. Has ever so much money been spent to make so many women look so bad?
Ah but some very noteworthy scenery as well.
(Fortunately my wife is understanding when I showed her what I was looking at. ) Randy, are you blind? Nuts? Or both?
That was some fine heep o' wimmez at the Met Gala, just cuz yo didn't like some of those fancey duds, don't mean the rest of us lack fer appreciation of the fairer sex. You need to look more closely at the article about paying college professors. You will note that several of the organizers/writers/activists are from a particular non Christian community. While the attack continues: the attack on Christian schools. Did you see any mention of attacking the extreme liberal, anti Christian, private schools? NOPE. The organizing folks in Chicago/Seattle -- the AAUP--have been targeting Christian schools now for 30 years. mmm...wonder why that is? Don't believe me--go to the AAUP website--look up the schools they have on their list of misbehavers and see if you can find any of the big schools like oh hell . . . you get the picture. What you might really be interested in is that the women in Seattle who have started this campaign to join SEIU are the same individuals who blacklisted my DH because we refused to work for them at 30% of average any more. Same exact gals--interesting isn't it? The same gals who stalked me, threatened me, destroyed my DH career- and now here they are 16 years later . . .
"organizers/writers/activists are from a particular non Christian community"
Does anyone ever call you out on your anti-Semitic bullshit? If you and your "DH" have failed repeatedly in academia, the commonality isn't Jews, its you two. So Mr. Francisco picked up a 1,000 pound canon? To do what? Load, aim, fire it? Then set it down and kill 2 brits at close range, bayonet no less? Who exactly witnessed these heroics? Silly propaganda.
He was trying to prevent its capture. Don't trash a war hero because you don't understand what's going on.
Re Lusitania
A case of the British Government using passengers as human shields in the transportation of munitions ... a legitimate target for the U-Boats. I find it interesting that little has been written about the naval blockade of Germany and how a neutral America was unable to trade with them as well. From what little I have learned, Wilson was not happy with the British blockade: "Originally, as the Great War raged in Europe,Wilson had been determined to keep America out of the war while protecting its trading rights as a neutral power. In a situation not very different from the Napoleonic Wars, both Britain and Germany were violating the American notion of neutral rights in their attempts to deny U.S. trade to the other. Germany’s U-boat campaign was more brutal than Britain’s blockade, and unrestricted submarine warfare was widely viewed as an atrocity against noncombatants and contrary to international law. Ultimately, of course, unrestricted submarine warfare would force Wilson to declare war on Germany and join the Entente powers. Nevertheless,Wilson fumed that the United States could not resist British restrictions on U.S. trade because of the supremacy of the Royal Navy. In September 1916 Wilson remarked to his closest adviser, Colonel Edward House, “Let us build a bigger navy than hers and do what we please!” https://www.usnwc.edu/.../The-Naval-Battle-of-Paris--. Re: Pamela Geller & CNN
The fact that CNN interviewed Geller about anything other than the event - as though it was an art exhibit or the equivalent to a sports event - tells you all you need to know about how CNN values freedom of speech. If they didn't critically interview people who would have liked to shut down the event (or more), that would confirm their hostility to basic freedoms. It is very fitting that their ratings are in the tank. "These aren’t just college-educated workers we’re talking about, they’re college professors, yet many of them live just as precariously as fast-food workers do. "
These adjuncts sure aren't demonstrating much "critical thinking". Otherwise, being college edumedicated and "professors" no less, they would stop this working for minimum wage stuff and go get real jobs that are needed to the point that the pay is high enough to attract qualified workers. Wait, colleges only pay so much for adjuncts, not considered enough, but they have no problems finding qualified workers? Truck on over to the Economics department to discover that if there are enough workers to meet the demand then the pay is sufficient to attract enough workers. Now, if these poor benighted profs could throw off their Marxism for a second, they might abandon victimhood and embrace opportunity. Namely, they take the crappy job at the crappy pay, learn how to teach effectively, then start making online courses to teach and compete. If they wish to protest, it should be against the education cartel and their backwards live lecture methods of dishing out time-served credits instead of knowledge gained. This supports my bell curve theory of education credentials. We start out with out credentials then we gain high school and increasingly undergraduate credentials which support finding a job. Afterwards, unless you are in a STEM program or government job, the graduate education actually starts to take away job compatibility until we end up with the Liberal Arts/Humanities Ph.D who has lots of credentials but the job opportunities of a high school drop out, i.e., very few and far between. Please, please, please, do not confuse a metrosexual nancy boy such as Seth Stevenson with being "overcivilized!"
Plenty of us rough old, yet "overcivilized" cobs have never stepped into a ring to engage in the "sweet science", but we have smelled the stale sweat of other men as we collided with them on the grid iron, basketball courts or the wrestling mats. Poor Seth would be out cold doing any of those things he's obviously never done before. Further, two minutes of touching gloves doesn't come close to actual boxing and its likely it was all Seth could do to lift his arms and maintain a defensive stance for those two minutes. OTOH, I'll wager Seth look really keen is his spandex as he engages in" non-contact bike rides" around his local park. Wonder if he'd orgasm (or shriek in fear) ifhe fired a 9mm or an AR-15? "... as long as I’ve been alive, Baltimore has been an eyesore."
I'd have to say the same for Detroit, Cleveland, my home town, etc. But then I'm only in my 50s, I'm sure 60 or so years ago, they were nice. "Snow, cold keep New England skiers stoked into May"
Well, I hope the those in the locavore movement in New England like frozen veggies. Root veggies may do okay. Kale is another vegetable that winters well. The kale in my parents' NE garden stayed green all winter. Green kale against a background of snow is an unexpected visual treat- and also an eating treat.
Doesn't appear to be a good year for tomatoes, given the late snow. my parents grow kale
Not because they like it but because the hornworms do. they call it a decoy. “drunker than 10,000 Indians”. I put in 23 years driving airplanes and all the spouting off that goes with it. I wouldn't last 23 minutes today.
When was the last time anyone heard the phrase "Chinese fire drill"? Or "Mexican standoff"? In America, everything is so subconsciously suffused with political correctness that speaking any phrase that has a whiff of race about it, even if the present meaning is something totally different, could get you fired or have other bad things happen to you.
I recently saw the musical "The Book of Mormon". I've been a Boy Scout leader for 22 years. One out of every eight Boy Scouts is a Mormon. I have gained some familiarity with the Mormon religion. If you have any familiarity with the Mormon religion, you'll find that there's quite a bit of material in that show that is highly offensive to Mormons.
It never once occurred to me that an irate Mormon would shoot me or blow up the theater. There have been too many art exhibits, plays, musicals, TV shows and movies that mock and debase the Christian faith to count. How many of them have been blown up? How many artists or spectators have been shot? Blaming Ms. Geller for this attack is like blaming her for being raped if she goes to a bar with a short skirt, cleavage showing and wearing perfume and then dancing with a drunk. bad link You can review the "censure list" on the AAUP website. This is a list of schools that have been harassed by the AAUP in the last 40 years. Some of them I am sure were deserving of censure--however, the vast majority are schools either in strongly religious communities (BYU), or small rural communities. There have been very few--if any--of the larger universities challenged over the years. Why is that? Well let's see now--does it have something to do with jobs (wheeling, dealing, trading)? Wanna bet? You can see that Yeshiva did get a censure but was quickly off-- you can go elsewhere on the site and reference to which offense of the 1940's code they school was charged with--the reference numbers are next to the school on this list:
http://www.aaup.org/our-programs/academic-freedom/censure-list Oh and I forgot--here's the man who has been running the AAUP for years and years and years: https://www.google.com/search?biw=1440&bih=721&noj=1&site=webhp&q=Cary+Nelson%2Bdaughter&oq=Cary+Nelson%2Bdaughter&gs_l=serp.3...125878.127132.0.127227.9.9.0.0.0.0.108.533.7j1.8.0.msedr...0...1c.1.64.serp..7.2.130.RmY2PabNC3k Sorry Donny "the bear"--but, you nor I, should allow our religious grouping to dominate truth, nor deny us a close look at actions as much as words. You are wrong about myself and my DH--VERY WRONG! Do you care if you have it wrong? I doubt it! Murray's lawfare makes sense and who knows might actually force Congress to quit tacking on "as the Secretary may direct...".
Scary thought, look up some rural counties and see how many where government is the largest employer and retail sales the second largest. And for the eye rub of the day, from People's Daily, Communist Party of China embraces virtues of religion in diplomacy. Let it burn, get CVS out of our community.
I will bet dollars to doughnuts that the government will pay for CVS to rebuild and CVS will agree to it. STUPID! CVS should stick their finger in the mayors face. She didn't even try to protect them when they needed it why would they believe she or the next black Mafia mayor would protect them. Baltimore is a cesspool and has been for years. Hopefully the Orioles will sneak out of town like the Colts did. Birds/bats.
But i thought the neonicotinoids were killing all the bats. And a citizen can get 10k fine and up to two yr in jail for possession of an eagle feather. |
