We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
May 1st now is the date every year on which socialists and many other people ignorant of economics (many of whom also lack even the scent of human decency, if only because it is smothered by the musk of their arrogance) celebrate “International Workers Day.”
Given the (at least) tens of millions of people – mostly workers (and peasants) – massacred, during the 20th century alone, in the name of workers (and peasants), today ought to be renamed Massacre Day. It should be an annual occasion to reflect solemnly and sadly on all the cruelty and horrors that human beings are capable of inflicting upon each other in the name of social engineering and “social justice.”
No sensible human being trusts any other human being with even small slivers of power.
We may get some competition on the deadliest ideology this century.
In the left corner, we have Communists (of a sort) in China are making aggressive moves in their part of the world and Russia, which seems to be trying to bring back the "glory" of Stalin's USSR, is making trouble in Eastern Europe.
And in the caliphate corner, we have Islamists who want to usher in their version of utopia by making up for time lost in the 20th century. One reason the Islamists were such pikers in the last century is that they didn't have any technology and for a lot of that time, they didn't even have any money. Now they have money (thanks to the US and England showing them that there was oil in the Middle East and how to drill it) and, especially in the case of Iran, they have technology.
Few know that Mao was responsible for an estimated 35 to 55 million deaths as a result of a socially engineered famine.
His ability to hide it up from the world was very succesfull.
His attemptes at socialist farming was not. The world should remeber this day as a warning.
Social engineering via climate change supporters could also cause more harm then their claims about climate change.
The IPCC are simply socialists in green hats. We need to take warning from the past.
The majority of those killed by communism were the result of social/economic engineering, but primarily agricultural "reforms". Stalin killed upwards of 9 million people with his agricultural collectivization (which is not to minimize the fact they killed a lot of people by other various means).
It seems killing people by starving them is much more effective than even systematically murder (as Hitler tried to do). And communist (collective) ideas about agriculture is probably the best way to go about it. However, the left is trying to challenge that method of mass death with their own agricultural reforms such as their opposition to agricultural advances like GMO foods, their ecological policies that, for example, favor a rare little fish above growing food, and their fetish for crops grown in sh*t rather than "chemical" fertilizers.
