We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
...a closer look at the numbers shows a mere 13% of program expenses — and just 10% of total spending — went for grants and aid. And despite its global pretensions, most of the aid stayed in the U.S. The rest went to salaries, conferences, travel and other overhead costs.
In fact, the Clinton Foundation was more generous to conference organizers than the poor. The IRS filing shows it spent $9 million on conferences, conventions and meetings, compared to $8.9 million in aid.
Mom & Pop farms are well on the way out. Farms are becoming more like factories every day. It’s probably been 10 years since the Isreali’s invented a robot that could detect the ripeness of melons and selectively harvest them. Why, to eliminate the risk of having hostile Palestinians in their midst. It is stunning how many parameters are measurable by sensors. As they become more effective, sophisticated, and cheaper they can be networked to constantly report conditions and program the response to those conditions in real time. There will be a reduced need for human inputs, and not just in agriculture. It isn't your Father's agriculture when you couple technology with the revolution in DNA manipulation of crops.
Re: Salman Rushdie and the PEN award for Charlie Hebdo
I still can't get over how people who say they value free speech (and benefit from it) are so willing throw it away over some multicultural/"tolerance" BS. And the object of their "tolerance" would not think twice about killing them if they wrote something "defamed" their prophet. In that way, they both have a similar value for freedom of speech.
and robots don't need bathroom breaks. Or sick days, (although they may break down) or complain about the weather, the pay, the company, that they work harder than their co-worker.. etc.
Baltimore: from what I remember of it, the Inner Harbor where the Aquarium was quite nice. However, you have to drive through the war zone to get to it, and you're probably not safe there either.
way to go... toss your only revenue in the toilet. I wonder how Camden is doing. (not really).
The wax thing has been around for years and is probably already on the drawer of yours that's sticking. An alternative is teflon tape. If you can't find it at Home Depot, it is surely at a woodworking store.
Hillary actually warned us about Clinton Foundation scandals
From the article:
Contrary to what is widely reported, the Clinton Foundation never agreed to stop raising money from foreign governments while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. Such funding should have been off limits — because it risks the appearance that US foreign policy is up for sale.
But even after Republican and Democratic senators pressed her in 2009 to accept limits, she refused. That should have red-flagged the Clintons’ intentions.
