Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Regarding the picture, I've had conversations with Millenials about intolerance. They are incapable of understanding how intolerance of intolerance is, in fact, intolerance.
It's a tough concept, I get it. You want to hate the racist, right? But in doing so, your intolerance is as bad as their intolerance, is it not? No! They do not see nor they care to understand this fine point. I try to explain to younger people that it's fine to hate racism, but hating the racist is the problem they have to overcome. Their conceptual framework is based on moral superiority. "I am right, racism is wrong, the racist is wrong, the racist is bad, while I am good, and therefore I have the right to make the racist do what I want them to do and behave how I want them to behave." It's an unfortunate concept, and one which we've seen played out before, on different issues, in the Soviet Union. As Christians, we are called to love the sinner (we are all sinners) and hate the sin. It's certainly a lot easier to say than do but much harder if you haven't been exposed to Christ's teachings. Not enough of us have.
Good answer, mudbug. I ran up against this concept in my 20's when I first started reading the bible through. Maybe it kept me from becoming a leftist while in college???
Thanks mary!
You might be interested in Dennis Prager's videos on the Ten Commandments. Among other things, he explains how they are the basis of our freedoms. QUOTE: Wisconsin’s Shame Walker's Dark Money Allies Orchestrate Coup of the Courts http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mary-bottari/walkers-dark-money-allies_b_7096498.html the stuffington post article was nothing but whining with nothing of substance, which I presume correctly you didn't read.
so grow up. you're getting gutted like a fish, again, deal with it. A totally dishonest story and you know it. The John Doe fiasco was caused by a Democrat prosecutor going rogue in an attempt to intimidate conservatives who supported a law that restricted the unions power over the state. I am hoping that he and his cohorts go to jail for what they have done.
GoneWithTheWind: The John Doe fiasco was caused by a Democrat prosecutor going rogue in an attempt to intimidate conservatives who supported a law that restricted the unions power over the state.
If you read the article, you would know that the special prosecutor is a Republican with thirty years experience. The previous investigation netted six successful prosecutions. http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/walker-scandal-who-got-convicted-why-n35886 You are a liar and a fool. Huffingtonpost did indeed doctor the story tomake it fit your agenda. But the truth is so bad it is unbelievable it could happen in this country. A denial of constitutional rights by a left wing prosecutor for one purpose only. Not to catch and punish bad guys. Not to uphold the laws of the country and they state. But to destroy the reputation of anyone who had opposed the labor unions stranglehold over the states employees expenses. What happened makes a star chamber look fair. This was the most disgusting act by the Democrats since they formed the KKK. For anyone, regardless of your political view, to support this and defend it is disgusting as well.

Chisholm's role in the investigation was taken over by a court-appointed special prosecutor. GoneWithTheWind: Huffingtonpost did indeed doctor the story tomake it fit your agenda. The article provided at least one fact of which you were apparently unaware, that the special prosecutor is a Republican.

John Chisolm is the man who was terrorizing conservatives for no other reason than that they had opposed the growing unions and the looting ot the treasury. John Chisolm is the man who used the John Doe warrants illegally and unconstitutionally and should go to jail for his crimes under the guise of a legal investigation. All of this has nothing at all to do with a special prosecutor appointed well after John Chisolm committed his crime spree. You know or should know what really happened and you sucked up to the phony story because it fit your agenda. You lied! Intentionally and without shame.
The reason you are a fool is the Democrat party has become the communist mafia in the last 40 years or so. The things that they stand for are in stark opposition to the constitution and democracy. They are destroying this nation for the sole reason that in their criminal destruction they can steal what little is left and be elected by their cronies who they throw "free stuff" to paid for by the taxpayers. We learned nothing from history. It is often asked when despots take power and the people back them or at least allow them to become terrible power hungry rulers who commit terrible crimes against humanity; like the Nazis. This is what many Democrats have become; useful idiots for a party that has veered so far left they are now where Hitler and Stalin were before the purges and genocide. You are a fool to not see the truth and accept the truth. I am a life long Democrat. I became a registered Democrat when JFK was in the white house. I am not afraid or unwilling to call out Democrats when they break our laws and moral codes. Today, fully 50 years after I voted as a Democrat in the first election I was elgible to vote in I honestly do not know of a single Democrat who is honest and who is not leaning left of Karl Marx. I understand why blacks, those on welfare, LGBT, hispanics, feminists, union members and others vote Democrat; they are after their share of the loot. What I do not understand is how any middle class person not from one of the favored tribes or protected groups votes Democrat. I can only assume they are stupid and uninformed. But to be intelligent enough to comment cogently on MF and to be informed enough to present arguements on MF and to still vote for and support the Democrat party is foolish. Yes I'm still a Democrat for an ironic reason but I vote for the person I think is the best choice and I vote for conservatives. There used to be conservatives in the Democrat party.

The Republican special prosecutor finds reason to continue the same investigation against entrenched money interests. Don't worry, though. The fix is in.

On Friday the Justices will consider whether to hear O’Keefe v. Chisholm, a Section 1983 civil-rights lawsuit brought by Wisconsin Club for Growth director Eric O’Keefe against Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm and other prosecutors. The suit charges the prosecutors with a multi-year campaign to silence and intimidate conservative groups whose political speech they don’t like.
The Supreme Court has made great strides in restoring First Amendment protections, and the Wisconsin case will test whether citizens can seek federal recourse when they are targeted and investigated for exercising those rights. I don't want to try and post a picture on MF but if you goto this site: http://neveryetmelted.com/2015/04/23/it-is-happening-here/ You can see what it is you are propping up and telling lies for.

Vox: milk and OJ.
a few things: "With orange juice, it’s [marketed as] an essential part of a balanced breakfast. With milk, it’s an essential part of a balanced diet. " So kids should drink highly caffeinated or soda instead? Milk (whole) contains saturated fat. Which fills you up. WHich leaves less room or desire to eat junk food and empty calories. And kids need saturated fat for proper brain development and function. "As people moved to the city and women started working away from home, cow’s milk became seen as a convenient way to give babies nutrition if women weren’t able to be home breastfeeding all the time". - Yes, except that new mothers are instructed to NOT give cow's milk until the child is past his/her first birthday. Was this before baby formula was made? (i'm not going to research it because I don't really care) >>Who knew that two tablespoons of dried, ground basil have almost the same amount of calcium as a glass of milk?* Let me see you eat two TBSP of ground basil. I dare you. Gross. Even spread among three meals that would make me swear off basil. Forever. and Is this like the FDA's mistake in saying that spinach is higher in iron than red beef because they made a mistake 5 decades ago on the food pyramid thing and never fixed it? >> The majority of humans in general, and even Americans (60 percent or more), are lactose-intolerant. Lactose intolerant to Homogenized PASTUERIZED milk. These processes remove all the beneficial bacteria that our guts need to process foods. Because most stupid humans can't be trusted with raw milk. Because it'll sit in their car while they run errands or out on the counter. And lactose intolerants can usually drink goat's milk. Has anyone else noticed the increased number of people who have intestinal problems? We know about 10 people with issues, 4 of them have had intestinal organs removed or been hospitalized for long amounts of time and now have super restrictive diets. Our super clean environment means our intestines (the seat of our immune system) doesn't have the proper mucous lining that it should to process food. All marketing is duping people into buying stuff. I am seeing pasta marketed as "A GOOD SOURCE OF FIBER" and FIBER RICH. it's still a carb. empty calories if you are a sedentary creature. I try to ignore the gov on food recommendations as much as possible.
I remember as a youth being encouraged to take salt tablets during hot days with physical exertion. Then salt became a bad, bad thing. Now, I hear it's on the good list again. I have low blood sugar issues (not due to diabetes). My doctor suggested I drink a small glass of milk (4 oz.) when I am feeling badly (the worst problem with low blood sugar is not feeling hungry or feeling nauseous when you think about eating). It has protein + a small amount of sugar.
It works. Milk is a great low calorie snack. Except for making an industry money, milk is useless.

THis coupled with the articles regarding the FBI~ http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/fbi-overstated-forensic-hair-matches-in-nearly-all-criminal-trials-for-decades/2015/04/18/39c8d8c6-e515-11e4-b510-962fcfabc310_story.html?wpmk=MK0000203 might lead up to people realizing that we are not in that awkward time described by Claire Wolfe, anymore. Funny, I just used Claire's quote. With the addendum "scratch the two words, too soon".
Thank you so much for reminding us of Ernie Pyle. As a young girl enchanted with Hemingway and journalism reporting I was directed to read Ernie Pyle. The man was great, those readings have stayed with me all these years! Thanks for the reminder.
Regarding the picture--IT IS PERFECT! Have forwarded it to my leftist relatives--two of whom are teachers and encourage homosexuality! Gotta light up a boring day somehow! :-) Now all I have to do is get up the courage to send the item you posted several days ago about NIH grant to study gay's first experience with sex! Yeah. . . need some nerve to send that one along -- but, will make an effort! ;-) Wisconsin’s Shame
Sooner or later someone is going to fight back. And I don't mean with a letter to the editor. Time to start thinking of the Civil War as the first Republican vs. Democrat armed conflict. Problem is today, they are everywhere. More in the Northeast then in the rest of the country. Almost like a Tennis match where the players switch courts in the middle of the game. I'm not going to start shooting my neighbors over political differences, and neither are you or anyone here.
re Twinkie's Miracle Comeback: The Untold, Inside Story of a $2 Billion Feast
That was a very impressive story. It's not just that they knew what to do, but how to do it. They knew who to turn to remodel their plants, picked the right people for R&D, distribution and marketing, and made it all come together at the same time. I stand in awe. It's also interesting that they sell their businesses after they rebuild them rather than holding them. One wonders why? Do they not want to be distracted by day to day operations of a profitable business or is the point at which a troubled business is brought to financial health the optimum time to sell? One wonders what happened to all the pension obligations after the sale? It makes modernizing and streamlining a business much easier without pensions and unions holding you back. The pensions were taken over by the Federally run Pension Guarantee Benefit Corp.
Maybe the unions and their members will realize that the long term viability of the employer matters, while management learns not bind the mouth of the kine that grinds the grain. Wonder how many of the long term unemployed are not working because while life is a struggle, they won't unfold their hands unless they earn the same or higher wage they once had. he's a photographer, if he thinks he needs that gear, who am I to say he doesn't. Just because Ringo Starr only needed a four piece drum kit with the Beatles doesn't meant someone can't indulge his hobby. Milk, eggs, cheese, butter; food of the gods. My favorite meal is breakfast. But of course it must include bacon or sausage maybe both. I enjoy breakfast so much I try to eat it twice a day. Feed your children milk, eggs, cheese, butter and of course meats and they will grow up tall and strong.
There is plenty of science backing up the U.S.D.A.’s position. As Kathy Freston wrote at One Green Planet, “the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study reported that the daily consumption of the amount of cholesterol found in a single egg appeared to cut a woman’s life short as much as smoking 25,000 cigarettes.” Another study came up with more alarming numbers: “just 3 eggs or more a week was associated with a significant increase in artery-clogging plaque buildup, a strong predictor of stroke, heart attack, and death. Those that ate the most eggs had as much as two thirds more the risk of those that smoked the most (the equivalent of a pack-a-day habit for 40 years or more).”
Read more: http://www.care2.com/causes/lying-egg-sellers-part-2-eggs-arent-healthy-nutritious-or-safe.html Do you expect to find truth at a site called the one green planet or care2. These are far left propaganda sites for the low information voters. You have to use your own grey matter don’t spend your entire life in an echo chamber. The various studies that have been done to track dietary habits and relate them to disease or early deaths has been sadly lacking any meaningful results. In fact the only real result has been that diet doesn’t make a difference. The carrot eating nurses contracted life shortening diseases at about the same rate as the egg and bacon stuffing nurses. But that didn’t stop the diet bigots from twisting the very weak statistical results that were no greater than could be found by random chance and not to be taken as proof of anything. The admitted unreliability of the self-reported data and dietary intake estimates in the data of the Harvard Nurses Study and Nhanes make the results almost useless. Further there were almost no significant correlations between specific diets and health and longevity. But if your agenda is anti egg you can twist each insignificant result that seems to favor you bias and at the same time ignore anything in the study that does not favor your bias.
What we do know with some probability of being correct is that if you do not have very high cholesterol than eating cholesterol, as in eggs, does not increase your cholesterol and does not lead to heart attacks or other diseases. As you can imagine this information does not set will with the anti-meat/milk/egg folks. The simple fact is that meat and dairy products are super nutrient dense foods. You would have to consume pounds of granola to get the amount and quality of proteins and other nutrients that you can get from a bacon and egg breakfast with a glass of milk. You would need to consume a bushel of kale and salad greens to even begin to come close to the nutrients a good bacon egg and cheese sandwich and a glass of milk provides. |
