We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Retirement" itself is a modern, decadent, government concept.

As for aging, no, it starts around 60, but that river in Egypt still flows deep among the Lefty Boomers.

Be informative for the the technocrats if they decide to push the retirement age to 74. However, does not seem likely. For S&G, CDC's life expectancy tables at age 65 and 75.

That school lunch was disgraceful. What makes it even worse is they said it meets the new healthy government standards. No child should have to eat that in school unless their country is going through a famine.
When my son was in high school the school had contracted with Taco Bell to provide options in addition to the school cafeteria. That cafeteria food had to be pretty good to compete and it did compete. The employees worked at it to present a option that high school aged children would willingly choose of Taco Bell. Just to be clear I think Taco Bell is good food even though it would be considered fast food.
This is something public schools should do. Contract with one of the big fast food restaurants to serve lunch along side the cafeteria food and let the kids decide. Than provide encouragement and budget for the cafeteria folks to compete in providing a tasty and attractive lunch meal.

Many assumptions are being jumped to in the "Mexican Sci Fi" buffet. First, that what we call Mexican is actually a blend of SW US/Northern Mexico dishes and not really Mexican in the manner of being representative of that diverse culture. Second, just because it is Sci Fi doesn't mean aliens, much less illegal aliens.

E.T. may have had to phone home, and V may have tried to conquer the people of Earth, but there was also a small band of space cowboys making money smuggling and fighting the Central planets.

I stopped at an Indian casino near the Four Corners for lunch a few years ago. Lucky me it was "mexican food" buffet day. Awesome food, best I have ever had. The cooks were two Ute Indians in the mid 20's. I remember thinking "Damn they cook great Mexican food". But eventally I figured it out that they in fact were cooking "native" food. Probably most of what I ate was essentially what these two Indian women were brought up on and learned from their mother. I have had similar experiences when I'm in the Southwest Indian country and eat at local restuarants.

Legalizing Pot

We should, in all fifty states. In fact the Federal Government should handle importation and distribution. Need a new agency, MSA (Maryjane Sales Authority).

Then the US Government can stop doling out hundreds of millions in eradication efforts, destabilizing most of the countries south of the border. But continue to control the flow of pot into the country to protect the California Growers Association. We'd have to close dozens of prisons and solving the water shortage in California would become a priority (can't let the MJ crop go dry!).
