Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thanks...and thanks for the great posts. The Cult of Statistical Significance (which I believe was posted on Maggie's at one point):

I'll take a stab at answering that. 1. Power. She can make the people around her do her bidding and influence the behavior of the little people with her policies and decrees. I am sure she thinks if she could just put people in their proper places and if they would do as she orders, the nation would run like a fine Swiss watch. 2. Her Ego. I am thinking being the first female president has a tremendous attraction for her. In addition, the adoration, compliments, favors etc. that come with the office will make her feel liked. 3. Money. Even though she has more than she can ever spend, people like her use wealth to keep score. This would be an opportunity to make even more money. Imagine the book deals, the increase in donations rolling into Clinton, Inc and the higher rates for speaking after she leaves office? 4. Revenge. She can use the power of Government to get her enemies. So those are my guesses. As a mouth breathing, bitter clinger, I am probably clueless. re Hillary’s Greatest Hits – “Get F*cked! Stay the F*ck Out of My Way”
Mrs. feeblemind doesn't believe any of it. She thinks those of us on the Right have made these quotes up. The email scandal doesn't bother her in the least. "Everyone does it." she says. She can't wait for HRC to be elected president. It must be pretty exciting around your house from time to time!
LOL.
There is an uneasy truce between us on the topic, mudbug. I have been trying to drag her kicking and screaming to the Right, but I fear it will be a perpetual work in progress. At least she doesn't believe in global warming anymore. So there is hope. Maggie's contributor Bulldog and I exchanged thoughts on this in a long past thread. He has female relatives that share the view of Mrs feeblemind that HRC can do no wrong. There comes a point where it's no use arguing with the brain blind. I know what you mean and I feel for you, feeble!
I'm fortunate that when Mrs. Mudbug started thinking about politics, she ended up thinking a lot like I do - even though when she was younger, she voted for Carter because he was from Georgia, too! :-) Our daughter, Mocine, who is mainly into tae kwon do and dance, always votes correctly too, which she came to independently, so there are no political arguments in our house! Re: Pole Stripping Dancing
QUOTE: "People think it's so easy but it's so difficult," he said after catching his breath backstage. I don't think about it at all, but if I did, I'd think it wasn't as nearly as good as the rock chick dancing here So apparently a US Recon aircraft was intercepted by a Russian fighter jet.
Usual fighter hijinks. Flew around them a few times, ran them off. But then, the Air Force issued a statement: "The U.S. crew believed the Russian pilot's actions were "unsafe and unprofessional due to the aggressive maneuvers it performed in close proximity to their aircraft and its high rate of speed," Pentagon spokesman Mark Wright said." Jesus happy slappy christ- is the high command being run by the Oberlin Student Council? "Today, a Russian fighter pilot abused his afterburner privilege to microagress against an Aircraft of Reconnaissance. This only illustrates the deeply triggering impact that blatant exercising of Russian privilege has on traditionally oppressed aircraft. We are calling for special "safe zones" over Moscow, St. Petersburg and all Russian ICBM installations where Aircraft of Reconnaissance may engage in their traditional dialogue of taking top secret photography without being exposed to fighter coverage." The complaint is justified, the Russian pilot was being a bully with an unarmed plane intended to carry passengers. It's doubtful the Russian pilot would have been so brave against an F-22.
The Russians are responding to the very aggressive NATO expansion into their former empire and to the US-engineered coup in Ukraine. They are reminding us that a European war is possible. Their frequent comments about their nuclear capabilities is a warning that a European war will be nuclear.
Perhaps we could reset our relationship. Gvt Logic post:
Related: my friend's granddaughter, a recent transplant from NY is trying to finish her hairdresse schooling/ licensing in PA. You would think that it's a national security issue to get the transcripts from her previous school in upstate NY and have them sent down with about 45 hours of phone/in person bee-ess that they have been through. My p value is zero: Nobody but nobody wants to buy it.
Pole dancers: WHY were there not MORE and BIGGER pictures with CLOSEUPS of the contestants? We wuz rob bed! Damn click-bait. The p value article reminded me of a short guide to reading scientific articles I once saw. For example, "It is thought" = I think; "It is generally thought" = A couple of other guys think so too. But my favorite was "Correct within an order of magnitude" = WRONG.
