We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
That Stravinsky pic is awesome! Sweet camera. I only have the modern bastard children (X1, XVario, and a surprisingly good C that I use for stealth street photography. Snobs like to trash the Vario but it's the perfect travel camera, wicked sharp, surprisingly good in low light despite nominal specs and , honestly , (are you listening Leica) auto focus can be useful when being herded around a crowd street by officious guides and being opportunistic and not having time to set up ideally. The T is ridiculous, too electronic, too pricey. You can use the cheap Olympus viewfinder w the Vario instead of the extortionate Leica accessory. Good battery life. Twice as good iq as my spouse's Sony system and more rugged. But an extravagance...If you are good at manual focus and that is your style, Leica lenses on a Sony body w converter are a great way to go. When I'm not in a hurry, I like my manual focus shots w a Leica 35 f2 on an Olympus a lot but a lot of misses on moving targets so I consider autofocus a Godsend (taking stealth shots of interesting gestures at a demonstration for example)
“An increasingly older, sicker population, as well as people living longer with chronic diseases, such as cancer, is the reason for the increased demand,” Darrell G. Kirch, the AAMC’s president and chief executive...
So says Mr. Kirch, a sycophant of the Obama administration and Obamacare. A larger and more immediate reason for the increased demand is that with subsidized Obamacare, there is no natural brake on people demand for medical services. When someone else is paying for it, people with trivial complaints that would go away on their own, have no reservation about seeking care for such nonsense.
When the AAMC says there is a growing "need", it misuses that word. There is not so much a growing NEED as a growing DEMAND and that demand is growing because people receiving subsidies - "free" care - have little incentive not to spend someone else's money.
Coupled with disincentives for capable and productive people to become physicians and government regulations that undermine and eliminate the direct physician-patient relationship, why should we be surprised that a shortage OF HIGHLY COMPETENT physicians who are both willing AND able to provide QUALITY care?
What does "lean in" mean, exactly? It looks to me like it means more "free stuff". Not enough women in leadership so qualified people (men) must step aside so unqualified women can have their jobs. And why not we do it now with race and other catagories of protected people. We all know at some basic level that it is contrary to good common sense. Would you fire a qualified doctor who happened to be a man and hire a woman who is neither a doctor nor plays one on TV? While that comparison may seem to silly for you that is in fact what we are doing. We hire people for jobs that they are unqualified to hold simply because of their race and gender. I loved sports as a kid but would never have made the cut for a professional team. But considering how racist the NBA and NFL is perhaps I have a chance based on my race but certainly not my skill. It would be laughable to put me onto an NBA team because I'm white; it would be embarrassing and ludicrous but we are effectively doing exactly that in most jobs/fields across our country. But, what the hell I would love the multi-million dollar contract and I would do my best to play great basketball so I'm asking you all to "lean in" and put this white man who can't jump into the NBA...
