Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Mark Salter, who was a top adviser on the 2008 presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R), is not a fan of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R)."
Theres a clue to the GOP problems. A top guy of a campaign that except for the VP choice was a loser all the way is still considered a top GOP operative. Maybe to the establishment Republicans he'd a top guy, but Walker would do well to not involve himself with the losers who ran the two last, sad, GOP presidential campaigns. Let's see... Walker turned a deep blue state at least purple but given that pubbies have a majority in both the Assembly and the Senate, I'd say that it seems to be turning a distinct shade of red. They passed Right to Work, eviscerated the teacher's unions. The state went from a deficit to a surplus, taxes were cut. All in four years. This genius's boss lost to a one term Senator who had a bag of hot air as a message. Who's the a real dumb a$$?
Walker has more street smarts than the entire Ivy League/California surfing gangs combined. Putin, ISIS, Erdogan, Castro, the Imans of the ME, etc. will not take the time to read the diplomas on the wall. Git the darn gov't out of people's faces and enforce the laws on the books.
My read is the GOP is in a panic. They really thought they squashed the trouble makers in the mid-term and could get back to business as usual in Congress and line up for jobs with the Jeb Bush administration.
It's not shaking out that way. Boehner is in serious trouble. He can't seem to count to 218. Voters are repulsed by the idea of a Jeb Bush nomination. And now Walker seems to be turning into the rallying point for disgruntled conservative voters. Video - Jeb Bush CPAC 2015 Full Speech

He and other refugees from Sun TV have just started it, hopefully keeping honest reporting alive up here, as the federal government and its corporatist allies drove Sun off the air and into bankruptcy. Hope net neutrality doesn't neuter free speech in America as well. Hope net neutrality doesn't neuter free speech in America as well.
If it doesn't someone is going to the woodshed. The timing of this particular outrage is interesting. Past the midterms, at the beginning of the new Congress: But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism. Ring a bell? What is next in the "long train of abuses and usurpations" that the free and unfettered voice of the people must be surpressed? Why do people call it "Net Neutrality"? The regulations are still a secret. There's no telling what's in them!
Coyote has a very good post on this. It's amazing that so many people that don't trust the government or Obama are still applauding this blatant outrage.
Fresh nappies - sounds like a wonderful charity for those guilt ridden over their wealth.
Jihadi John and the fault line on sin maybe closer connected than we care to think. Many find comfort in Pauline structures, e.g. recycling, monogamy, etc yet find few offering that. Walker not ready, why not let the primary voters decide the issue. Or should abolish them and let the old boys in backroom decide who is running? Chicago's debt, not to worry, a big difference between owing billions vs $500 to fast freddie's title pawn. If they're THAT poor, perhaps we should be supplying condoms instead of diapers.

The old Republican party is broken. All the old Republicans and most of the "new" Republicans in congress are all about getting reelected and using their power to enrich their cronies and themselves. The only difference I can see today betweeen the old Repubicans and ALL the Democrats is that the Democrats have been quietly taken over by the far left, the Marxist Socialist and therefore they want to fundamentally change America into a communist country. The only redeeming quality that the old Republicans have is they are not the new Democrats.
Re: Exhausted Liberalism
First I abhor the term "liberal" when used in connection to the current left "leaning" toadies. That being said, I enjoy reading positive, optimistic columns like Goldberg's but I think it deserves some counterpoint. For decades, the most popular radio discussion radio shows have been conservative. In fact, there are NO similar lefty shows of any note. The same goes with TV news and opinion. There hasn't been a grassroots movement as large as the Tea Party since the Civil Rights era. There is NO equivalent lefty movement. The mainstream news media has been held in general disrepute for decades. Polls consistently say that the majority of Americans consider themselves to be conservative rather than liberal. All this, and more, is evidence that the actual that the left is "punching above its weight" at best and at worst has stolen our government and society through devious and criminal acts. One end result is eight years of Obummer and all the destruction he has caused. I hope Goldberg is right, but looking at what an "exhausted left" has accomplished so far (with some help from a feckless opposition party" I'm not as sanguine. hawk du jour
I've got a nice one in the area keeping the rodents down. https://onthenorthriver.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/hawk-challege-dsc_27881.jpg My proposal:
There are about 27 billion diapers sold in the US each year. The goog tells me a disposable diaper costs about 20 cents a unit...about 5.4 billion a year on diapers. So heres what we do. We cancel the F-35. Take that 19 billion a year in operating costs alone. Diaper every ass in the US. take the other 14 billion and....do whatever. Cut everyones taxes by 44 bucks a year maybe. The only unhappy ones are Lockheed Martin stockholders, and honestly? Eff em if they can't take a joke. We spent half a trillion or more on that damn thing. I don't mind spending it on a great plane (A-10 anyone?) but to heck with the F-35. Lockheed failed to deliver, time to cut them off. Cut taxes, spending, defense boondoggles, and give free stuff to the poor in one fell swoop. Exhausted Liberalism:
You mean the second "renaissance" is finished? Thank Goodness! The Dress/Color: Oh geez--here it comes. Wait for it. You know it's coming: That Dress is gonna quickly become "scientific proof" that white people discriminate against people of color--they can't help it, because their eyes do that color thingy! Anyone taking a bet on this one? If the universe had no beginning, then something else had a beginning. The only other choice is to say it's turtles all the way down.
Another possibility is that our concepts of time, beginning, and ends are human constructs, not of the universe.
A universe that has always been there is an exceedingly hard concept to wrap my feeble mind around.
Good take on the paper here. The amazing new physics that makes it into the news is pretty much all crap. Physics ain't fashion.

I knew it was all over. Who is Mark Salter? Who is the Dumbass? I don't mean anything as elaborate as the classical Christian doctrine of original sin — a sin undertaken by an ancestor that's passed down as a stain on subsequent generations.
I’m sure the judgment in the article as good as its fourth sentence is accurate. |
