We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
ISIL/ A nuisance? In terms of conquest, I would have to agree that it is not a nuisance, but in terms of economic disruption, not so much.
Think about defending everyone, everywhere, 24/7, and the costs involved in hardening every potential target. Then consider the resources it would consume and multiply that exponentially by the lost opportunity costs, just as you would for offensive war. No one has the wealth to sustain that indefinitely. In the USA, there are 9,000,000+ square miles, 300+ million soft targets, 10s upon 10s of thousands of public spaces and infrastructure targets, thousands of entry points, and multiple means of attack (dirty bombs, biological threats, poison gas, planes, IEDs) to bring death and destruction OR economic disruption. Besides the human cost, think what 9/11 cost the American economy; then consider child hostages on school buses, bringing in Ebola, contaminating a reservoir, attacking a nuclear power plant, major bridges or terminals, containers or LNG tankers .
Seriously, I don't get your point. 9/11 cost the economy as much as $2T, by some accounts (not including the DHS or wars). How quickly we forget the contraction in GDP, the rise in unemployment, the bailouts (agriculture, airlines/travel, insurance among others...), the stimulus. The list goes on, above and beyond the loss of lives, property, clean up, loss of revenues, including tax revenues, lost opportunity costs..........Come to think of it; while not terrifying, it is worrying.
Fortunately there is a simple solution to their threat. And it's not unarmed guards at every corner.
Profile all travelers and recent arrivals into the USA, prohibit anyone of the Muslim faith from entering, deport those already here. That will prevent 90% of likely problems.
Then if any attacks do happen, trace the perpetrator family back to the shithole they came from and level it by air-delivered high explosives. That will encourage foreign governments to stop attackers from coming here with evil intent. That will stop another 4.9%.
Any remaining problems will undoubtedly come from home grown wannabes, or if you prefer...nutjobs.
But Profiling is the key, early and often. This will reduce the damage to an acceptable level. Or do you have a problem with that?
I'm not an Apple cultist, but the Apple products I have experience with seem to be a little more polished and smooth than competing products. That being said, I think a lot of their appeal is the trendiness and the style of them.
As for their plans for a car, that seems totally off the wall. It would make a lot more sense to buy Tesla than to build your own car. I read somewhere that the battle is really over the dashboard and what platform will run it. That makes more sense to me.
