We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Do you need to go to parent school?


This is the sort of thing I can imagine the UK requiring - along with diversity training and recycling training. Is there a ‘right’ way to bring up your child? Linda Geddes asks whether parent school is the answer.


These programs are designed by Child Psychologists. Since when are they experts in this? I'd prefer a panel of grandmas, myself. Some kids, of course, are especially challenging if not impossible. Easy kids make parents look good; tough kids make parents look bad.

When the kids were small, I generally consoled myself about the way we were raising them by looking around and seeing that about 95% of the adults I knew were pretty good people.
