We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The feds want to regulate fireplaces and wood stoves, which burn biofuel. But they want to cut down trees for biofuel - and to term it "carbon free" which is ridiculous. They want good food (maize - corn) turned into alcohol for fuel, which is more inefficient than oil or gas and produces more pollutants and screws up engines.
Meanwhile, they are still pushing electric cars, which are powered almost completely by...coal.
"Meanwhile, they are still pushing electric cars, which are powered almost completely by...coal."
This is one of my pet peeves when trying to have a discussion about alternative "power" with my friends, is their inability to understand how things work. Nothing is really electric or battery powered, a battery is a storage device and electricity is a means of moving power. The power itself either comes from fossil fuels, nuclear, wind, water or the sun.
Same with hydrogen, it doesn't occur naturally on earth, it has to be created using one of the other sources, so it is a storage method rather than a source.
The delusion and superstition of our Ruling Class means that WesternnCivilization is at an end. What will replace it is unknown. It will almost certainly be for the worsecasvfar as thenaverage man is concerned. May God save us.
Frightening to think that this generation, us now living at this moment in time, have lived (past tense) in the best and highest moments of the human race on earth.
That it's all downhill from here. The degenerate elite, the pliant masses, the barbarian masses (within and over the border) against the increasingly thinning layer of the burdened people of civilization. Those who have allowed their own children to be turned against them, children instructed to turn against education and religion but worst of all against their own nation.
Blessed are those who passed away before the dawn of the 21st century. They could die while still believing in the future of Man.
Electric cars run on big batteries. Gasoline/diesel engines also have batteries. That are full of acid. I don't know the mechanics of electric car batteries as we never work on them, but I believe that it is their "achilles heel" and what makes them unaffordable without subsidies. Also dangerous.
A week ago a tractor trailer that was parked in front of our garage burst into flames from what the fire marshall said was electrical/battery caused. This was the 3rd battery/truck fire he had investigated this week and it was only Tuesday.
The flames were 30' high and burned through the power lines, melted an aluminum tank that was sitting in front of our shop 20' away and warped our 20' x 20' garage doors although it was about 40' away. The cab is almost entirely gone, the tires melted and thankfully the driver had been picked up and wasn't sleeping in the cab berth.
This is why we disconnect battery cables when vehicles are parked inside overnite.
I can only imagine the feeling driving around in an electric crockpot with batteries that are even more unstable and likely to burst into flames than conventional batteries. Or having one parked in your garage. Where you might be sleeping with your unaware family feet away.
Might I also mention that electric cars are charged by electricity that used to be powered by coal fired electric plants until the EPA decided that burning coal was bad for the planet. And our health.
Asthma and disease rates keep increasing. Methinks the two are not correlated, unless it's inverse, as the air quality is supposed to be 80% better than the 70's due to all these regulations.
any excuse the tax the shit out of us peasants.
OH and solar. There's a giant solar farm on the other side of the mountain from me, The panels are covered with 1' of snow right now.
Oh and regulating wood. This is because at the moment, wood is mostly untaxed. You can get triaxle loads of wood already cut and split from the loggers. You can get a $20 permit from the state forest, gamelands to harvest trees they mark BECAUSE IT's MAKES THE FOREST HEALTHIER AND REDUCES FIRE HAZARD. Fencerows need to be cut back. Orchards need to replace trees on a regular basis. Firewood takes some effort and labor, but is not taxed at multiple levels like other energy sources; gas, coal, oil, kerosene, etc. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HEALTH AND ALL ABOUT CONTROL.
Also, consider that batteries in electric cars need to be replaced after a certain amount of time...and they are VERY expensive. Where do you put those toxic batteries full of horrible toxins and chemicals? How will be they be disposed of? How do they get the resources needed to make these batteries for electric cars?
These are the questions environmentalists don't want to answer. Nor do they want comparisons made to gas vehicles. Nor do they want their electric car subsidy to go away so that they have to pay for the TRUE cost of their electric car.
