We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Wow! That's exactly how I navigate around in my car. Who'd a thunk it?
I often do not know where I am, but I always know where I am not. For example, right now I can state with complete confidence that I am not in Hawaii.
"One pill makes you taller
And one pill makes you small...."
No, really, that was the wording of the 40+ year old explanation of an inertial guidance system, without the background information and concurrently displayed images which would allow the listener to figure out what was being explained. heh. Gotta love the military though. Your tax dollars at work. snicker And don't get riled up: I'm a 68 year old retired Army senior NCO with 24 years in the green, not some idiot hippie. ;)
Not even riled up! I've got you by 4 years with 2 RVN tours. Had to be an NPR voice - but he carried it off so well and sounded so earnest I just had to share it with Maggie, and she went and blabbed. Kinda liked some of the other stuff on military.com as well...
It's quite funny but it's true. Each change in location is assumed to possibly be in error so the system splits the difference between it's last location and the new location and does this quickly hundreds of times a second until the difference is extremely tiny. The intent is to compensate for possible inaccurate data that can creep. In this way if an error suddenly showed it on a different heading or in a different location than it actually is by splitting the difference a correcting will not require a massive change back. The system also learns and/or has programmed into it the limitations of the device so that a truely massive change in location exceeding the physical capablitities will create and even smaller fractional update. Did I just make it all worse?
