We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
This is an issue for the US, unless the US abdicates its necessary roile as the only p;ower that can effectively counter Putin. Isolationism breeds worse consequences, and does not protect US interests. Obama's retreats from responsibility have already tipped the balance against the US. Further doing so will create further distrust of the US by potential allies and discourage local defenders against Russia, China and Islamists expansionism. A large group of defense experts friendly to the Obama administration recommends sending light anti-armor armaments. Otrherwise, despite sanctions that have not deterred Putin, Putin is encouraged to continue his predation on neighboring countries and support of anti-Western forces in the Middle East.
I regret, and I believe you will come to regret, that you see no US interest in restraining a belligerent and expansionist Russia, which then encourages the Chania and Islamist expansionists. Also, by your logic re: corruption, Washington should also be abandoned rather than we support rolling back the expansionist corruption. Has Obama been less energetic than Putin in expanding his power?
Obama's effort to legalize illegal immigration is a disaster for the U.S. Every year illegals kill as many people here as the terrorists did on 9/11. The diseases they bring with them unchecked by our health laws kill more children every year than Adam Lanza did at Sandy Hook elementary school in 2012. Most of the workers who have found jobs since the recession began in 2008 were illegal or legal foriegn workers and not U.S. citizens. The cost to the federal budget for illegal immigrants is in excess of $300 billion a year and a similar amount by the state governments. This is a crisis and ignoring it won't make it go away.
Vaccines: It is pretty rare to have a complication with Measles, but that is not the problem. The problem is exposure of pregnant women, who aren't given the choice.
That said, I wonder if Rand Paul is echoing Sen Dan Burton's claims who conducted hearings on vaccines & autism; his family had that very experience.
I would posit that it is more the issue of the various public health authorities suppressing real problems. After all, if a vaccine has a .....% risk of problems, that means - statistically - that there will be a fair few children who experience said problems. I'm not certain how Public Health can say: there is a ....... 1 in 1 million (Or whatever the statistic is), but, should your child be one of that number, here's what we can do. On another website where - it was claimed - the death rate for girls getting the HPV shots were far greater than the estimated number of deaths sans shot.
This really riles me up. Am descended from a family of teachers, all of whom would have - should it be possible - risen up and chucked this woman off the list.
That being said, it must be admitted that there are teachers gaming the system in other jurisdictions. Know conscientious teachers who care about their students and work hard to ensure the best possible outcomes every year. They are so demeaned by these antics.
