We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We have become a soft people. Kids once might walk great distances to school, men marched a hundred miles to fight bloody battles, and, believe it or not, for most of history, no one had modern medical care. Now a winter storm means we hunker down as if a Viking raid is nigh.
Insty: "Despite their superficial attachment to multiculturalism, our elites don’t really want to think of other cultures as, you know, thinking differently, for fear that it might somehow be racist to take that into account."
I am pretty sure I read it here, that a MF contributor wrote a book about training border collies.
I NEED IT
and I can't find it on a google search.
Smart animals are much, much harder to train. We got a border collie puppy and having some issues with communicating what we want her to do. SHe has the drive to work our cattle, but we're not communicating correctly where we want her to put them. Don't have an adult BC that could teach her.
I do NOT need basic dog care and training manual, I don't want to just randomly pick one on amazon.
Try searching "training Australian sheep dogs/shepherds" as my son had them and successfully found several sources (books and videos) that delivered good results. He's out of the country right now, but I'll try to remember to contact him when he returns.
Given the state of education in the US and how it's been corrupted by the left, it shouldn't be a surprise that US college professors would say things like:
The traumas of the French Muslim population today are linked to and an extension of the violence inflicted by the French on Muslims colonized for decades.
If we define being an Islamist as someone who’s committed to establishing an Islamic state, there is no proof of that commitment on the part of the shooters. It seems more prudent to simply call them what we know they were: violent criminals.
The obvious error in the first quote is that the Muslims from French colonies are much better integrated into French society than those from the middle east. As for establishing an Islamic state, why do they think these Islamists want no-go zones where they have their own courts and laws? Why do they want to have Sharia law incorporated into the legal systems of the countries they immigrate to (colonize/invade)?
Open the Atlantic to oil drilling, nice way to score points knowing the wandering caravan of environmentalists, NIMBY, etc will make it all impossible, e.g the Cape Wind project in MA.
Banning e-cigs does seem to be the rage nowadays but still unwilling to kill the golden goose (taxes, tobacco settlement money) by outright bans on tobacco. So, more motivated by the desire to control than public health.
