Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Corruption has always been around no matter where you look or how far in the past you research. While fashion encouraged smallpox vaccinations in 18th century France, today corruption is the method for pushing vaccinations. If you remember, the disease ADHD was made up to push pills for big pharma. Wikileaks showed documents that one of Bayer's pesticides, deadly to bees, was released without any warning labels because of shenanigans inside the FDA. After that was on the market, America beekeepers experienced the Colony Collapse Disorder among bees. Now, previously sealed court documents are back in open court to show that Merck falsified the MMR test data to keep its vaccine in the market place as the only approved MMR vaccine. http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/06/27/47851.htm
Just as school now isn't the same as school from the 50's and 60's, vaccines aren't the same. The anti-vaxx label is straight from the communist play book and is backed by lots of big pharma money. Because it didn't fit the play book, no one cried "Anti-Vaxx" when the Central and South American invasion created problems with diseases that hadn't been seen in America before. My point is that the supposed huge outbreak of a contagious disease at Disney Land is another scary crisis that really isn't a crisis and that our vaccines aren't nearly as clean and safe as they were years ago. I can't find enough info online to form an opinion on Merck's mumps vaccine, but I did find this little tidbit at Huffing and Pissed:
"If the whistleblowers win, it would represent more than a moral victory (they repeatedly tried to stop Merck while still in its employ). Under the False Claims Act, the whistleblowers would receive a share -- likely 25 per cent to 30 per cent -- of the amount the government recovers. Previous settlements involving extensive fraud by pharmaceutical companies under the False Claims Act have run into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and in some cases such as against GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer, into the billions. " Yeah..... well. Quite an incentive to be a whistle blower. Whether the science is good or bad does not always matter in the settlement of such cases. I would say the whistle blowers have a good shot at a handsome payday. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:f1O0tzgPz-0J:www.huffingtonpost.ca/lawrence-solomon/merck-whistleblowers_b_5881914.html+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=palemoon How very sad to see the first comment.
"The supposed huge outbreak of a contagious disease" has me quite worried. It is not 'supposed,' it is real, and it is spreading around California. Not sure what else will convince a person with this kind of view. Miss T, 51 children have contracted measles at Disneyland. This is such a small percentage of the children attending Disneyland that it isn't even statistically a number. More children were infected with infectious diseases this past fall from the invasion children placed in local schools than were infected from going to Disneyland and yet there was no huge outcry from those placed in danger at their local schools. There was only limited media coverage of the influx of those diseases which never occurred in America before. Americans are no longer able to think clearly and the news feeds on that inability. I....... correctly addressed the vaccine issue in his comment. So, don't sweat this minor outbreak. Miss T, facts rather than rhetoric and hysteric news stories count.
Most Americans remember a news story for 30 days. Between 30 and 60 days they may remember a little bit of the meat of the story. Between 60 and 90 days, they may remember the headline. After 90 days, the story may be repeated as a new story. This information from FEMA was briefed at my county Emergency Planning Committee meeting after 9-11. Measles at Disneyland is a distracting story. This is the highest outbreak of measles in California in the last 15 years. We had essentially eliminated measles in this country (read up on it...declared eradicated in 2000) until the anti-vax people showed up. This is not a 'distraction' story. It is a warning story...get your children vaccinated or these outbreaks will continue to grow.
FYI, the incubation period of measles is quite long (I think 21 days). We have not seen the end of this outbreak yet. This morning the new count was 78 infected. Excerpt from Maggie's Farm Mission Statement above:
Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. This is how I feel about this vaccine thing. The choice will likely not be there in the somewhat near future and that worries me more than getting the measles. Those of you who accept the safety of vaccines should indulge yourselves. Please respect the decisions of those who refuse vaccines regardless of their reasons. (If you believe the reason is ignorance, I believe "The right to ignorance shall not be infringed") We want the same things you want, stated in Maggie's mission statement. I accept that many people that I otherwise share many views and opinions with, believe in and indulge in vaccines. I will not get in the way nor try to discourage you from your choice(s). I think there is a mindset or maybe even a mental illness that allows someone to be an anti-vaxer. I don't think their anti-vax position is their ONLY "anti" position. They reject science and are convinced there is a conspiracy around every corner.
Vaccines work. It is such an obvious statement one wonders what could possibly happen to cause the need to state that "vaccines work". 100 years ago half of children would die before reaching the age of 18 and most of them died before the age of 5 from diseases we now prevent through vaccination. It is all to easy to have an anti-vax position while you are simultaneously enjoying the benefit of vaccinations. If you are a parent yu children most likely lived to bring you grandchildren. That was vaccinations that brought you that great joy and it sure as hell wasn't the anti-vax movement. Quite simply the anti-vax movement is the indulgence of spoiled anti-science, anti-logic people. It is not based in reality but in conspiracy theories and ignorance. There is one last point to this issue; that is that for many of the diseases that vaccines have prevented it is essential that a large majority of the people get vaccinated. Unless almost everyone has the immunity the total effectiveness of the vaccine is reduced. This fact alone is reason enough to require vaccinations for pre-schoolers. Just as we pass and obey laws that protect us all vaccinations are essential toprotect us all. To choose to not vaccinate your children is not so different from running redlights and stopsigns with total disregard for anyone else. Miss T, when I was growing up we had thousands out of school every year because of the measles or the mumps. No one was discouraged by those infections at all. In fact, it was expected. 78 infected is still so small that it is not a statistical number.
Gone, perhaps you should read the warning labels on various immunizations. This particular court case isn't a conspiracy it is hard evidence showing that Merck's MMR vaccine is ineffective and that Merck data was falsified to keep their complete control over the market. This case doesn't reject science, it uses science to show the corruption that is rampant in big pharma. No conspiracy -- just facts. The warning labels are to prevent massive law suits. Everythng is dangerous. The medication that has caused more deaths then any other is aspirin followed by acetaminophen. Either one of these causes more deaths in the U.S. every year then all of the vaccines that are administered in the same year. In fact death or serious side effects from vaccines is rare.
So what is the truth about Merck's MMR vaccine? We don't know. Isn't it odd that it is only reported on the anti-vax sites and the quack sites. The lawyers offer a reward for someone to become a whistle blower. They conduct a trial usually focusing on some minor legal point. The objective is to provide some legal basis of a class action lawsuit with big bucks for the law firm. Every year the lawyers go after some medication because there is big bucks there. They will usually try a class action lawsuit in some backwoods Mississippi county to make sure they have a lot of ignorant people for the jury pool. It's generally a lawyer scam and it certainly isn't a case of the lawyers valiantly protecting us al from big pharma. As for the MMR vaccine; there is zero doubt that it is effectve and saves a lot of lives and even more sufferring. But who cares about that when there is money to be made? Gone, you are reading the wrong web sites. Courthouse news isn't a quack website and is accurate in reporting.
Your point of view is that the lawsuits are only for bucks. Have you listened or read about doctors who oppose massive vaccinations for MMR? Have you read any of the reports about the fact that vaccinated children in the Disneyland case are getting measles? Have you read medical reports stating clearly that the flu shots we are all supposed to get are only effective against the one strain of flu that the CDC dictates and that usually the strains that show up aren't the one that the vaccine was prepared for? I see and hear all these reports at my county Emergency Planning Committee meeting. They are official USofA documents not quack or anti-anything. Vaccines prepared and tested properly are good, but when the basis of the vaccine testing is compromised then public safety is put in jeopardy. This is the case in the current MMR vaccine. Adults who read don't think that the media not reporting on problems here in the USofA is unusual at all. In fact, those of us who have observed firsthand the falsehood of American media reports aren't surprised at all. Gone, you need to get out more and you need to loosen your shoe laces. Yes there is a case in court and courthouse is reporting on it. Can you find that reporting anywhere else? Yes, oddly every quack site is reporting it. That is my point. At this time we, the public, do not know what if anything is true about this case but all the quacks are busy stirring up the crazies.
Yes the law suits are ONLY for buck, period. They have never been for patient safety or truth. They have always been about more BMWs and MacMansions for lawyers. Yes sometime people who are vaccinated for a disease they can catch the disease. This is why we talk about the herd immunity. There is some level of vaccination immunity that must be obtained so that the particular disease cannot run through the herd infecting all or most. In most cases if 90-95% are vaccinated then the disease cannot get a foothold. Of course this becomes academic if your president chooses to intentionally import 100,000 sick children from countries that do not vaccinate and then sends them to live amongst the public in 1000 different cities. There are many strains of flu but ony a few specific types of flue. The strain is determined by the type of protein molecule that attaches itself to the influenza. So if the flu is a different strain the flu shot is not as effective. STILL effective but not as effective. The problem is the lead time to create the flu vaccine is about 6-9 months so the scientists have to make a best guess with limited information. Someday this lead time may be reduced and the flu vaccine will be more effective. I agree that the MSM does not do a good job of reporting on important issues. If they did they would shut down the law firms that cater to ambulance chasing class action suits that have seriously harmed our health care system. They would report the truth about people like Mercola and Dr Oz and run them out of town on a rail. I appreciate your concern for my "shut in" lifestyle. I am concerned that you might be overly susceptable to the whacky lifestyle. I do not believe our doctors and scientists have conspired to fool us and that vaccines are intentionally useless or worse dangerous. I believe that they are doing the best they can especially considering the blood sucking lawyer class that is all over them and the luddite army that believe and encourage the quacks who do us all a disservice. It saddens me when I see sufferring and deaths as a result of some innocent, perhaps naive person taking this deadly quack advice and pay the price for it. Science and medicine isn't perfect! It is, however, better then any other method for discovering the truth and finding ways to improve our health outcomes. SUperstition based systes are NOT an option. |
