Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Until this week, I was unaware that there was a Jewish exodus from France. I see that as ominous, in a “canary in the coal mine” kind of way.
Understand that "vegetative state" was also the condition of Terry Schiavo before the Florida pigs had her murdered at the direction of Judge George Greer. with the help of good ol' Jeb! and Shrub II.
May they all burn in hell for what they have done. That is my memory too, BD. There was certainly a lot of unwarranted optimism about her prognosis. But I also remember that her parents were willing to foot the bill for taking care of her. If the tax payers weren't going to be paying for her care, why did the government have any say in her care (or rather lack of care)?
mudbug: If the tax payers weren't going to be paying for her care, why did the government have any say in her care (or rather lack of care)?
It wasn't the government's decision. Rather, Terri Schiavo had expressed a wish not to be kept alive on life-support. Her husband, who spent years trying to find a way to bring her back to health, had the final say. Rather, it was the government that stood in the way of Terri Schiavo's desire to be left alone. Even if she had brain function, it was her right to determine the extent of her medical care. This is a decision that families face every day, and many opt to allow a natural death. In this case, the autopsy showed that Terri Schiavo's brain was severely damaged. Bullshit. The lying piece of maggot swill ONLY claimed that AFTER she was awarded damages in the lawsuit. She NEVER told anyone else anything even REMOTELY like that. And didja realize that Michael Schiavo was with the local pig sty? And had TWO kids by his whore while his wife was in the hospital? Damn him to hell where he belongs, along with his filthy whore, that maggot shit "Judge" Greer, and that entire pig sty who helped them murder her.

Multiple courts looked at the facts, and they found that Terri Schiavo likely expressed a very common sentiment. Absent such a finding, the husband would decide.
Surveys have found that the vast majority of people would not want to be sustained artificially in a vegetative state. Indeed, most people wouldn't want to be sustained artificially if there is no reasonable chance of a decent recovery. Returning to mudbug's original concern, it was the government that intervened in the natural death of Terri Schiavo against her wishes, and the wishes of her husband.

Almost 300 Stanford Professors Sign Letter Urging Divestment from Fossil Fuels
How many of the 300 are economics professors? Ah, capitalism. When idiots do something for uneconomic reasons, the market doesn't interfere with their mistake, but rather simply lets the profit go to those less foolish. I'll guess few or none from the engineering and business schools too.
That implies that Stanford has 300 professors who teach useless topics?
What if gas and oil aren't from "fossils" after all? Some interesting theories out there tying trapped elemental carbon, heat at certain subterranean depths and (unknown) bacteria. Because there certainly seems to be too much coal, oil and gas around to have come from dead dino's. Maybe we're living on the surface of God's own fuel storage shed?
I'm amused that those trying to shut down the production and use of carbon fuels continue to base all their justifications on two (really) unproved theories; Human based global warming and peak oil (diversification from a depleting resource). In the case of global warming a map of the world showing the areas that might benefit from a warming planet; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2908213/How-country-cope-climate-change-Map-reveals-best-worst-places-live-planet-warms-up.html Hmm! Seems that North America, Russia, Australia and most of Europe would benefit greatly from global warming. Africa, South and Central America and the Mid East would take it in the shorts. This is a bad thing? Last, the "Peak Oil" nonsense. This interesting statement, "...reserve estimates are based on current technology and prices, not just underlying geology. The original geologists were not incompetent, he said, rather, the technology to extract oil vastly improved." In other words, if the price is right, there will always be a way found to extract more oil and gas." I'd like to see us divest from hare-brained ideology and ideas that have no merit. [i]I'd be impressed if they vowed to eschew fossil fuel themselves]/i] Excellent rejoinder. The lit crit writing isn't as bad as imagined.
A lot of the jargon refers to other work. If you want an entertaining start, Derrida's short Spurs is nice. For God's sake skip the preface, by another jargonist. The woman's place is not the man's. Re: Believing your own lying eyes
There seems to be a lot of misinformation about what has been happening in France. I wrote a friend who recently moved to France and he was pretty impressed with the French police he had seen. As for what has been said about Muslims in France (or for that matter everywhere), I am impressed that some genuine "moderate Muslims" are speaking out. I could have missed it, but I don't think I heard nearly as much from similar Muslims after 9/11. I would also say that unfortunately the voices of those "moderate Muslims" are not "loud" enough when compared with the fact that there are Muslim enclaves in major cities where French police will not go and French law does not apply. There needs to be more of an attitude like the Mayor of Rotterdam. Could be our lap dog media doesn't want to print/video it. Wouldn't surprise me. It would harsh the mellow of their narrative.
Re: Liz Warren and her friends
Lefty class warriors generally fall in two camps. Rich people who already have their money (and who have usually made it on their own) and poor people who were told by those rich people that they have no hope of making it on their own. Do note how the "Leaders" "led" the march the other day:

Notice anyone besides the "Leaders" in the upper photo? But then again, these ARE the Elite, and not Mere Citizens, so one has to expect such. "Obama Will Fight Media To Stop Anti-Jihad Articles" Protecting free speech by suppressing it?
I do not want people put in harm's way by premature or unneeded release of some info, but this is not just a slippery slope it is a cliff. Make no mistake, 100% of the oil, NG and coal in this country and everywhere in the world WILL be harvested and used. The only purpose of slowing it by those on the left is to increase the price. You would have to be terminally stupid to believe that humans will not use it all eventually. So this isn't about pollution or AGW.
