Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

We can imagine 'what if Bush' had said that about Tehran, or Iran, or Freedonia, but who can forget that he is the one who gave us the hit song "Islam is Peace"?
Gaza is nowhere because it is inhabited by Nowhere Man. Gaza is the enclave of barbarous, hate filled losers who accomplish nothing, follow the dictates of ignorant imams drooling over the mic on their Friday night genocidal rants.
They raise their babies on the milk of hatred. The mothers' highest aspiration for the fruit of their shriveled up wombs is to be suicide bombers. What a despicable culture! It's almost as if Obama sees Iran as one of those Russian nesting dolls...
Good Morning MF and Happy New Year to All !
You will love this one from one of our biggest schools in the country. After you have read through this article I would love to hear your thoughts and what it is that offends you the most. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/11/25/ucla-grad-students-stage-sit-during-class-protest-what-they-see-racially-hostile Well, you asked what offends me the MOST in the article:
The "demands" in the petition offend me the most. If only I had known in school that I could stop the prof from correcting my papers by claiming microaggression! Well, we are going to see the reverse of Broken Windows policing in NYC as those same petty crimes are also revenue offenses. And the NYPD has acted to reduce their exposure from enforcing those crimes, both to shooters and lawsuits.
We should note that most of the "crimes" in Broken Window policing are also the ones where someone, like Eric Garner, eventually gets fed up and resists police, resulting in force, etc. Then everyone asks why use force for such a petty offense, protest, etc. So, for beat cops it is win-win-win. Less exposure on the street during stops, lower risk of a "small" infraction spiraling into a use of force investigation, and they are sending a "revenue" message to the mayor. Besides, most cops hate doing "revenuing". So how is it exactly that the non-Jewish white community will be able to organize to protect those values that we believe to be correct? If when we organize we shall be called "racist", or "white supremacist"? How do we protest the loss, if we are not allowed to speak or demonstrate as other groups do?
Do it without regard to name-calling!!! Grow some cojones and just do it!
Sticks and stones......and all that! Only now your Mom isn't here to run to, when the bullies start up with their counter-tactics. But, as Law Prof. Glenn Reynolds says "Hit 'em back, only twice as hard!" Re: North Carolina's marshmallow crop disaster
Wow! I've been living in NC for over twenty five years and didn't know it had had such an important crop! I hope they can make it through these hard times. It really is a more important crop than most people suspect. Of course, that makes me wonder how the Montana Dental Floss farms are doing. Hopefully, the cold weather up there isn't damaging their crop. Re: college courses in Beatle music
Paul says it's ridiculous but unfortunately, there are lots of college courses that are much more ridiculous. In fact there are more ridiculous degree programs. MOTY: “There are three faithful friends—an old wife, an old dog, and ready money.” –Benjamin Franklin Hillary! blows the "old wife" part of that to smithereens.
Marshmallow farms: Really? I see them traveling down US 101 thru Oregon. They have huge (HUGE) (might even say GIGANTIC) marshmallows out in the fields after the harvest. Rains a lot (whole damn bunches, in fact) there, according to the stats i looked up. Disney Princesses: The one comment there is Truth To Narrative! Streetcar not desired: Some people are wising up. Others want to spend tax monies to cronies and get graft. Anti-Police Protesters: My schadenfreude just spiked! Neo-Victorianism: Real life is real, and they can't cope! And refuse to learn how, or take the vaccine. It’s time the good Muslims cleaned house: Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Like that's gonna happen. Gaza: Only if the Palis recognize that they are their own worst enemy, and decide to change, and then work at changing. The Israelis would help them. I see no chance of the Palis changing. Having young grandaughters I am quite familiar with the various princesses. The movies are great, I enjoyed them and the girls love them. I actually think it does help young girls feel more confident and helps them see themselves in a good light. I don't know that it really hurts boys. Most boys and certainly my grandsons are simply unaffected by what girls do or think. They are still gonna be rough and do what they want and like and don't seem to suffer from the same low self esteem problems that girls are supposed to be suffering from. Boys tend to have an attitude and tend to think overly highly of themselves and their abilities and aren't easily put off because their sister or friends sister's are bouyed up by princess stories. Or to put it another way boys pretty much don't give a damn about much except what they are interested in. This is not to say I don't see a problem in today's America with boys not maturing and taking on adult responsibilities. I think though the problem is simply that too many boys become man-boys simply because it's possible. Mom and dad let them live in the basement and society has that hammock we euphemisticly refer to as the safety net. I think that if someone is lazy the means and temptation is there to allow them to indulge that laziness. I also think this problem is worse for women. Welfare is a trap that very few escape. Anyway count me as being OK with the princess movies and stories. I just don't think they are the problem.
"Marshmallow Crop"
Not the first to do this. See this famous antecedent from the BBC in the 1950s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVo_wkxH9dU Uh, Jim... That video is about a fictitious spaghetti crop. Everybody knows that spaghetti doesn't grow on trees! We're talking about the real danger of a bad marshmallow crop!
Ridiculous because we never studied anything…
If McCartney had studied, he would have realized study must be about something, something other than other studies. The musical product of original, talented geniuses is one of those things. High Taxes, Regulations Send New Yorkers Fleeing
No, they don’t. I’ve been reading this evergreen headline for fifty years. Were it true, New York would be filled with the poor living among ruins. High Taxes, Regulations Send New Yorkers Fleeing
It does indeed send many people "fleeing". But like California many "rich" stay and the total population increases. Does this equate to a good thing? You have to look deeper. If you are middle class a hard worker and especially if you work for yourself New York or California has too many regulations and too much of a tax burden for you to succeed. So on the surface it may not appear that there is a problem but every year the percentage of people in New York who are dependent on government increase and the people who work for government increase while the self starters and innovators go elsewhere. Maybe that's as it should be. I would be quite happy if California and New York attact all the welfare class and leave the rest of the country alone. But my fear is that sooner or later California will force the federal government to pay for their mistakes and New York won't be far behind. |
