Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I think the point is that the U of Michigan is a hotbed of institutional racism. Never have liberal ideas been so firmly entrenched within America’s core elite institutions. Never have those institutions been so weak and uninfluential. Minus rape, feminism is rather too obviously a list of trivial complaints by comfortable yet hysterical semi-affluent white women. Re: Bush Jr.
I agree. He is a gracious, caring man with good heart. I disagree with some of his policies but I don't believe he has the duplicity or guile of Obummer. Ok. I read the link BD dared me to read. Well most of it anyway. It made my head hurt. I can't keep track of who is racist to whom and what constitutes evidence of that racism. Non-black people of color? Racist multicultural fraternity? White men controlling hip-hop music?
Is that what these kids are taught or is it that they don't have enough to do? Probably both. Mudbug, you made it further than I did. Pschyobabble aside, don't they teach paragraphs in school anymore? I'm going to the McSorley's website to clear my brain.
If you click the link at the top of the Dinocrat article - the word "Michigan" in the line "What's happening in Michigan" you get the original which is formatted. Apparently, the formatting was lost when it was copied to Dinocrat.
It only makes the racial babble a little easier to read. But it didn't make it much easier to understand... I'm going with satire (SATIRE) on this one. Taking it seriously is like sitting in kudzu and letting it grow all over you.
Your faith in the reasonableness of today's college kids of color (black or not) is admirable. I hope it's well placed.
Merry Christmas! Given the inherent absurdity of much of prog-think these days, it is increasingly difficult to distinguish between prog-think and parody of prog-think. I don't think this was a parody.
Re: Normal Barbies
A Barbie with stretchmarks, moles, bruises, and scars? I guess instead of role playing with Barbie having different careers, or wearing different fashions, they can pretend they've been beat up by Ken or that they've lost their figure because they had a baby. I'd prefer this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YleuKwWQOwc Re: economic potential of Cuba
Not much until they get rid of those Castro Brothers and those like them. Exactly. I am reminded of the HL Mencken quote about Purtitanism.
QUOTE: Puritanism. The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy. For the Castro bros, it would be the haunting fear that some Cuban outside the Nomenklatura is making money and thus making himself independent of the state. It should have read, "I double dog dare you to read the whole thing." After 10 lines or so, I rolled my eyes, and stopped reading. Bad. Bad. White Man. Blah.Blah. Blah. As Joseph Bottum points out, the religious impulse has not left those who have left the churches their ancestors attended. Those non-churchgoers are just as obsessed as John Calvin with Original Sin - if not more- and with belonging to the elect.
For these latter day Calvinists, Original Sin is associated with white skin and with racism. They can belong to the elect by adopting the correct views on racism, on global warming, on diversity, on the epidemic of rape on college campuses, on multiculturalism- better expressed as any culture but Western culture- and so forth. Speaking of multiculturalism, I recently started reading the Spanish language version of Isabel Allende's Ripper, set in the San Francisco Bay Area. I couldn't get past 5 pages. All the politically correct characters. Whereas in Paula, Isabel Allende shows the mixed nature of things in looking at her grandfather, whom she loved dearly but who also supported the coup against Allende- who was Isabel Allende's first cousin first removed. Or in Chile, My Invented Country where she admits that while from her point of view Pinochet was an SOB, she gave Pinochet some grudging respect for what he accomplished in governing Chile. And then, another ten or more (I'd say 20-30) years to shake off the residual effects and habits.
Hit again Joe, please, already smelling the popcorn and beer. Like the yodeler, entertaining and talented.
Double dog dare, give it a "F", keyboard macros and jargon disguise any original and creative thought in the essay. A list of trivial complaints advanced by hysterical semi-affluent types, sounds like any city council/county commission meeting ever attended. Academia weak and ineffectual, well they are removing themselves from the gene pool and approaching the point they only speak to each other. Linus explains to Charlie Brown what Christmas is all about.
