We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Perhaps, though thinking that using "Lost" languages to publicize the Word gets an "F" for effort.
How many people in America know Latin, or Greek, or most any other language? 2%? Bi-lingual we are not (excluding Pig-Latin), especially in the classics.
Yeah, the Latin quote is "In your light, we see light," from St. Augustine. But we can't have anything, you know, God related, in the English part of the Christmas-- oops, the holiday-which-dare-not-speak-its-name-- card. Let's put some Latin in there to sound educated, while steadfastly refusing to engage with the concept it expresses. It might lead to actual, you know, illumination.
I am not going to urinate on BD's card as he likes it.
But.
I wonder how many cards they send out? The manpower and materials could get expensive. Where does the money come from? Is there no smarter way to spend it?
I don't receive a card, Christmas or otherwise from my Alma Mater.
