Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Cuba
You fail to remind people that the reason Castro took Cuba with such ease is because the Chicago/Vegas Mafia was running the country into the ground. The casinos, the drugs, the total assault on church, family, and community was appalling. Just as today the Hollywood/Chicago crowd have done the same to us. I think it is only fair that you make absolutely clear to your readers that the Chicago/Vegas mob will be in control one second after the recognition takes formal shape. Nice work folks-- Running the country into the ground? Assault on the church... community?
For the sake of discussion, I'll accept your characterization of Cuba before Castro. I'm willing to bet that if you gave the people a choice between the way it was before Castro and now that at least three quarters of the people in Cuba would jump at the chance to go back to the way it was. I'd also bet that that number would be greater if they had lived during both periods. However, I have no illusion that Obummer's move WRT Cuba will in any way bring back those bad old days you describe. If anything, I expect it to merely enrich the Castro brothers and their ilk. And some political money boys from the Democratic side ... bundlers and the like, who are probably finding ways to invest in Cuba real estate and the like, through shell corporations and local intermediaries.
We’ll see if President Goldman Sachs sold out to Castro or Castro sold out to President Goldman Sachs.
Great Horned Owls were hootin' here in SW Ohio early this morning, about the same time. Magnificent creatures.
"If you only read American media, you would never know that most of Europe is boiling with anti - illegal immigration (migration) sentiment"
Yeah, let's keep confusing the two... We are seeing the destruction of Europe. Sweden, England, Germany, France, all of Europe. Call it multi-culturism, pro-immigration or a UN plot to destroy Europe it doesn't change what is happening. It has been ochestrated and carried out against the will of the people and now the people are beginning to wake up to it. So now mud must be thrown, names called to scare/stop those who oppose this coup. If you oppose mass immigration then you are racist, far right wing, religious nut, isolationist, etc. But for most of Europe their murder rate, rape rate, child abuse and crime in general has doubled. Beautiful old cities in old Europe now have large areas where the police, the citizens and tourists dare not go. It is getting worse by the day. In a few years the murder, rape, child abuse and crime will have quadrupled. Europe is being thrust into the third world. Most of this has been conciously unreported by the MSM because it goes against the pro-immigration diversity MEME. At some point when the percentage of the population reaches some tipping point there will be rioting and violent struggles for power. This will be followed by repression and retribution against those people who thought it was their country. This will not end well and looking back in history anyone with a clear mind can see what is in store for Europe.
Reread all that again and replace "Europe" with the "U.S" and the story is just as accurate. Re: Bernie Sanders
Sanders is a socialist so he has absolutely no idea about how an economy works, only how he thinks it SHOULD work (sort of like Obummer when he told the UN that the US no reacts to the way the world should be rather than the way it is). It is no surprise that he and his fellow Demoncrats (who are actually socialists too but are not honest enough to say it in public (which reminds me of a certain John Gruber). Somebody should tell these people that they don't get to pick their own reality. Dear BD: I very much enjoy reading your articles on food. I have a question that I would like you to address seriously: why don't we eat Swans? Knowing that you are an expert in all things bird, I thought perhaps you would be the one to ask.
Best Wishes for a Very Merry Christmas and Wonderful New Year. I read about this somewhere in the last month or two:
http://althouse.blogspot.com/2014/10/why-dont-we-eat-swans-anymore.html http://neoneocon.com/2014/11/27/thoughts-on-turkey-day-why-dont-we-eat-swans-anymore/ and today: http://modernfarmer.com/2014/05/come/ Roman concrete: Apparently they took the Ozymandius poem to heart. Not gonna happen to US, they said.
When Journos Are The Story: "The job of the journalist is to cover the story. In recent days, though, it seems that journalists have become the story, and not in a good way." I think it's a VERY good way. Shep Smith: Hates the Cuban people not related to Fidel. #3 Jess1, I understand it's legal immigration under the EU rules. EU rules are made by EU rulers, and not by the people they ignore. Canada: There's a lot to like about Canada. Mark Steyn would like this part. Let us not also discount the reality that most of the post 1960s concrete work that is crumbling was union work. The slave labor of the Roman empire took more pride in their work.
Slaves HAD to work hard and well, or get fired (i.e., dead). Union guys...no.
I agree with the Coyote Blog link. Embargoes and economic sanctions hurt the poor and the powerless, the Cuban people have suffered enough from the Castros.
How long do you continue a failed policy? To whom are you directing your question? Castro? Obummer?
The US is the only country in the world that has refused to trade with Cuba. Are you saying that trading with the US is the thing that will finally turn Cuba around? That even though Cuba has been trading with the rest of the world to no benefit to the Cuban people, when the US trades with Cuba, the people will finally start to benefit rather than the Castro regime? For years I thought Sony was a Japanese company. Now it turns out they are French.
Hamas is still raking in money and weapons from Turkey and Qatar, too. Why don't we begin by breaking the US alliances with those two countries, before they drag us into a war with Israel on the bad guys' side?
The church my wife and I attended decided it could no longer stage the service which suited us. And that was that. We didn’t leave. We were gently guided into leaving.
