We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Ironically, the individuals in question came here for freedom and opportunity with their children. Now here, they are expected to throw off their backward religion, embrace homosexuality, never, ever attempt to pray at their child's school or really anywhere in public as well as encourage their daughters to abort any pregnancies. Also, to get qualify for the generous welfare benefits the Democrats are offering, marriage, present fathers, and work will not be allowed.
I have some sympathy for those fleeing violence and poverty. However, it is hard not to notice that the people who cheerlead for “Open Borders” are the same people who are sympathetic to “Tin Pot” dictators, “social democracies”, so called. Heaven forbid that the battle(figuratively, not literally) against the thugs and crooks be waged at the source, in their homelands, where it would actually make a difference. Certainly, it would be better for the fleeing immigrants.
No surprise here, our political class always has its legs spread for every Tom, Dick, and Harry special interest at the expense of work a day Americans.
It is hard not to notice how selective their “ empathy” is and how incapable they are of weighing unintended consequences.
Clothes R US or We are our clothes. Didn't Mark Twain do a riff on this? If we didn't have clothes, for practical reasons, we would have to invent them for status and identification reasons.
"Cal is my alma mater, something that I find to be a perpetual embarrassment." That's exactly what my Dad (Class of '48) said when I was a kid in the Sixties.
There were only two colleges that my parents prohibited me from applying to, Cal Berkeley and Harvard.
Now that I watched this, I don't know whether this video is entirely fair. When he's raising the ISIS flag, he is up by the Campanile, which is not that heavily a trafficked part of campus. When he is waving the Israeli flag, he is at the epicenter of Sproul Plaza, which has always been a flash point for confrontation and is the main route for passing through the center of campus.
The fact is, Berkeley students quickly learn to ignore pretty much anyone and everyone as potential nut cases, so ignoring him with the ISIS flag is standard student behavior.
