We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
President Obama’s executive amnesty violates the laws Congress has passed in order to create and implement laws Congress has refused to pass. The President is providing an estimated 5 million illegal immigrants with social security numbers, photo IDs and work permits—allowing them to now take jobs directly from struggling Americans during a time of record immigration, low wages, and high joblessness.
This amnesty plan was rejected by the American people’s Congress. By refusing to carry out the laws of the United States in order to make his own, the President is endangering our entire Constitutional order.
It makes no sense if the intent was to bring resolution to the huge illegal immigrant problem. It is the exact opposite of putting our citizens and the law first. It is going to harm the middle class and the poor in this country. In every respect it is impossible to reconcile what the president did with what the president's job is. The only way this begins to make sense is if the president is not and never was an American and he hates America and believes we should be punished and taken down a notch or two. Ironically the church that Obama attended for years and years does indeed hate America and believes Americans should be punished.
I am certainly not a lawyer, but Somin's discussion of the wide latitude in prosecutorial discretion the president has, my understanding is that in this case, that is beside the point. Obummer has not said he will prioritize immigration laws differently, he has said that people who were ineligible for certain benefits now are. In other words, what was once illegal, is now legal.
His (and the rest of the demoncrats' argument) that Bush 41 and Reagan provide a precedent is incorrect given the analysis in the previous link (No, Reagan Did Not Offer Amnesty...).
Obama is no longer president of the United States. He forfeited his office last night by violating his oath. The question is, how is he going to be removed? He should no longer be referred to as president.
