Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Preppy Signaling

Humans are innately tribal, are we not? We have ways of communicating our tribal identifications by dress, manners, comportment, tone of speech, appearance, etc.


People can almost instantly identify a fellow tribesman/woman, and can just as easily tell the real from the fake (eg, Ralph Lauren Polo is fake).


Here's the preppiest website I have ever seen. It's for real, and done by a gal named Muffy: The Daily Prep.

Yes. I believe we all belong to tribes, multiple tribes at that. I am definitely not a member of this one.

Loved the site. I was on the periphery of this tribe when young, and with effort could perhaps have slid into full membership. I continue to have mixed feelings about it, but a different mix than I felt then. Nice to know they still exist in an unaffected form, though.

I was thinking survival foods, places to escape to, how to make soap at home, best choice for self defense firearms, food preservation, etc. Instead, it's got tattersall skirts. Muffy certainly is a looker though and it pays to be exposed to the various subgroups within this great nation.

Yes! I attended college in Maine and knew many members of this tribe. Never really wanted to become a full-fledged member, but fun to revisit.

That salt water barn looks like a slice of heaven - the kind of place I would love to spend my "retirement".

Not to let the cat out of the bag, but certain parts of the Farm do a fair amount of preppy signaling as well.

And a name like Muffy does an exemplary job of signaling. Though a New England native, I had no direct contact with the preppies.
