Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Will leave the post election to the grape connoisseur's out there.
BTW, anyone read Mia Love's wiki page? Looks like she was the beneficiary of birth right citizenship and the Bush era amnesty. So lets think a bit before rushing into the amnesty battle. The art of not working, sometimes is because the expected work output is too low other times, its monkey see. Agree trimming the brass hats at the Pentagon is the big challenge but Hercules and his skill at cleaning stables is not here. I'm not seeing any indication in that Wiki article that Mia Love's parents benefitted from any amnesty, or that they took advantage of anything other then the normal US immigration policies in place for "Western Hemisphere" applicants from 1965-1976. The advantage of having a child born in the US was that her father did not need to get certification from the labor department before applying for an immigrant visa.
Well, the Republicans took the Senate and increased their power in the House. So will the overturn Obamacare or secure the border? Will they make a greater effort to find and deport people who are here illegally? Will they end deficit spending and reduce taxes? I believe they will fail to do any of these things and in fact will simply be "Democrats lite". And just like lite beer they will lack substance and good taste and will turn people off. They willsquander this opportunity just as they typically squander every opportunity they get. They are in fact politicians and as soon as they stop celebrating their win they will get together and divide up the spoils. Also to make sure that they don't lose their nickname as the stupid party they will compromise on everything with the Democrats. We are standing on the precipice of a economic collapse and the Repubicans will fail to cut spending, fail to cut taxes and fail to stop borrowing and printing money. So "we" won, or did we?
Depends. If they were to ditch McConnell (perhaps a 0.000001:1 chance of that), and the House were to dump Boehner, and each put one of the young tigers in as leader/speaker, they might make some progress.
Tom Brokaw seemed to sound like a non-partisan observer but that just shows a clever phrasing.
After all, he is the guy when he was on 'Imus in the Morning' just before Clinton's second presidential election who wondered aloud if the Chinese Funny Money scandal would hurt Clinton - to which Imus retorted that it was unlikely since if they watched his news casts, they wouldn't even know about it. Then, a couple of days before the 2008 election, he and Charlie Rose mused that nobody really knows anything about Obummer. Well, that wasn't quite true, it just that what was known was discussed in polite company. So now to say that the question is, 'what are the pubbies wiling to give to the demoncrats' while chastising both parties for not getting anything done rings more than hollow. First he would never and has never asked what the demoncrats were going to give to the pubbies when they won an election and second, the reason nothing got done in Congress was because Harry Reid never put any of the three hundred or so bills passed by the house up for a vote. With continuing exposure of the demoncrat media, now from Sharyl Attkisson on top of Bernie Goldberg's lifting the cover on media malfeasance (not to mention the devastating analysis from the Media Research Center), it's clear Brokaw is just another hack from just another willfully blind newsroom whose days of influence are dwindling. Per Insty - DNC operatives with bylines....
I prefer 'Fifth columnists' and 'red-diaper wannabes'. re The Islamic State is raising an army of child soldiers,
QUOTE: Three American high school girls from Colorado were caught last week in Frankfurt, Germany, apparently on their way to join the Islamic State in Syria. Reports say they were radicalized online. we're supposed to be afraid of this? re election results:
In a stunning display of economic ignorance, Nebraska, by almost a 20 point margin, voted to increase the minimum wage by $1.75/hr. Perhaps... perhaps if we are really really lucky this indicates a beginning of the end of the "second renaissance". The generation of corrupt, failed idealists who were just booted out of office have believed themselves to be the "second renaissance" ever since they were in high school. Historians will tell you that the high point of the original Renaissance lasted for approximately 35-40 years. Though it is credited with lasting longer--those additional years were a great catastrophe. Corruption and disarray quickly filled the void of what had been dismantled during the early years of the movement. Pray that we do not make the same mistake this time. It is possible that this group and their horrible contempt for our culture, our nation and our constitution may be on their way out--the only question is what will replace them? Pray for us all.
The generation of corrupt, failed idealists who were just booted out of office have believed themselves to be the "second renaissance" ever since they were in high school.
Which reminds me of a conversation in Berserkeley circa 1970 between two educated middle-aged gentlemen. One of them said- I believe it was the architect- that in the future, Berkeley circa 1970 would be seen as another Renaissance era. While I had at that time drunk fully of the Berserkeley kool-aid, even at that time that remark seemed to me to be self-congratulatory and over the top. The decades have not changed my opinion. As predicted:
n Washington state, voters approved a measure to expand background checks on gun sales and transfers; the checks will extended to private transactions and many loans and gifts. The rival measure would have prevented the state from expanding checks in that fashion; it was trailing statewide. Of course it was "predicted" because the dems/communists in WA state tolerate no open elections! It is all to comfortable to feel as if the siege is over--but, it is not--we must remember that this morning most of the liberal/communist organizers went back to work on--focusing on the next election of choice. Be wary the victory--it will not relieve us of these fools. They still occupy all positions of upper management in any Federal agency:immigration, US Forest Service, Dept. of Education, IRS, etc.,etc., Their liberal campaign consultants, their media strategists, et.al will all still be getting a paycheck on Friday--and, for all the Fridays to come. I thought the best was one of the bought and paid for mainstream TV anchors looked like she was crying.
Brokaw: Nothing, I hope; but little, if we're lucky. Pour that bad-tasting medicine down their throats.
GMO: Read Oregon voted 2:1 Against. Europe: May be clear, but I expect they'll roll over and think of Europe. |
