We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It wasn't flying lessons that killed JFK Jr. It was that he just decreed that the weather would stay visual flight rules and took off. Dumb ass dead, no great loss. Probably saved some woman from sexual assault the family is famous for.
I didn't really get this Koch crazy until I saw a map showing the richest person in each state. In NY state, home of NYC, where money is the measure for society, a Koch brother, David I believe, was the top dog.
Other cities use other standards, such as innovation to change the world in Silicon Valley or education in Cambridge, MA, but in NYC, money is the measure of the society pukes.
It must really burn the DemProgs of NYC that the top dog in their society, by their measure, is a Koch brother.
"Competent" of the lot? You mean competent as a total fraud and thief, don't you?
Competent enough to make his millions bootlegging whiskey during prohibition, and running stock scams, right?
Wow. What an awesomely competent business man.
And in his spare time, when not busy being Mr. Super Competent (in between shtupping Gloria Swanson while Rose Kennedy was at mass) he advised Roosevelt from his perch as Ambassador to the Court of St. James during England's darkest time, that "Democracy is all done here in Britain".
When the night bombing of London began, the ambassador took himself at 4pm each day to a rented mansion in Surrey.
Yes, exactly. Competent isn't the same as honest or admirable. To his credit, I think Joe Kennedy did a good job at the SEC, he knew how all the scams worked. Too bad someone similar wasn't keeping an eye on the mortgage industry.
Clearly the Koch brothers are a threat to democracy. One of them even gave $100 million to a hospital in New York. The bastards.
Joe Kennedy was extremely successful. He used prohibition to make millions selling booze. He then took advantage of the crash of 29 to parlay his many illegally gotten millions into a sizeable fortune. Thanks to smart lawyers he and his family were able to evade a lot of the taxes that they insist hoi polloi must pay. I suspect that the U.S. is so much better off today thanks to two assinations and we would be eminently better off if there had been three. Certainly Mary Jo Kopechne would have been better off. I am still waiting for the annual Edgertown channel swim tournament to be instituted in rememberence of good old Ted. Good old Ted Kennedy also generously shared top secret government information with the Russians, something that would get you or I a lifetime accommodation in a quiet federal prison. So Robert Kennedy Jr. is just living up to the family traditions and no doubt we will someday see him contritely standing before a judge pleading for mercy after the "accidental" death of someone's daughter.
