We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
For the Western political observer, Russia judged by common metrics always seems on the verge of being a spent force. As Joseph Conrad reminds us, Russia never seems to vanish from the map, and remains a font of imperialism and war.
re Liver battle pits Midwest, South against California, New York
Some random thoughts:
Nothing like getting HHS involved to make the distribution system more 'efficient'.
Interesting that California and New York need organs from the Midwest and South as their people are loathe to donate on the the scale of midwesterners and southerners. Turns out the hillbillies and bitter clingers are good for something.
I would guess that an organ market would go a long way towards alleviating the shortage. I have never understood why it is 'immoral/unethical' for the donor to get paid while everyone else in the process profits handsomely.
I expect things will get much worse as 0bamacare takes root.
Simplest solution: If you want to be on the organ recipient list, you go to the top if you were on the organ donor list. Make it a question on those forms a clinic or hospital has you routinely hand out to get started, informing people of the consequences. Game over. Plenty of organ donors.
"Humblebrag" is a great term. I've been using it the last couple of years.
We need to dial down the "Russian threat to life as we know it" stuff.
The U.S. seems always poised to interfere in the most useless places that are no threat to us at all. Did Russia create the current disaster in Iraq? Crimanentlies! Pres. Twinkletoes, esp., doesn't have a clue and our time would be better spent keeping that precious gift from Harvard from getting us involved in a war against Assad.
