Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: The results show that if there were no returns to career choices in the marriage market, men would tend to work less, study less, and choose blue‐collar jobs over white‐collar jobs. Many complain that we are seeing this these days. They complain mostly because they fear the loss of the surplus such men create. That they then use to live off of. But the men are just being logical. Little upside to marriage, then do your own thing instead of dying in a job you hate. It helps with fertility controlled demography that women are available for casual sex and not desirous of children until they hit their 30s. It really is as if feminism was designed by 13 yr old boys. Re Scottish independence: While I appreciate the thought that sovereignty and independence have not been seen as issues in the campaign, the independence side is neither for Scottish sovereignty (leave the UK and join the EU?) or individual freedom (Alex Salmond is a flaming socialist). The land that gave the world the Scottish Enlightenment has long since faded into the mists of history. Too bad actually - an independence campaign based on 'The Wealth of Nations' and 'The Theory of Moral Sentiments' would be a worthy one.
Since Paullie "The Beard" Krugman is against it, Scot Independence must be a good thing.
Not really. While the sentiment is to let them do what they wish, there is a lot of nonsense surrounding this. Not to mention that the Royal Navy's nuclear sub base in located in Scotland, there are several international oil support firms located in Scotland who would be forced to move, etc., etc.
It's a nice idea, but who is going to support the economy - the EU? Doubt it. The low interest rate doesn't transfer wealth if it's coupled with low inflation.
Normal rates and normal inflation leaves you in the same position, by owing income taxes on the imaginary gain that inflation produces. A retiree is actually living off principal, not interest, in both cases. In the case of high rates and high inflation, he doesn't notice it, but his real principal is shrinking. "What is your strategy?"
The author didn't really try to cover the single most important issue affecting our sovereignty; legal and illegal immigration. While our real unemployment exceeds 12% and unemployment among the youth and minorities exceeds 30% we are allowing millions of illegals to enter and stay in our country and what is even worse our public policies will only encourage this to accelerate in the near future. We are at serious risk of being overrun by a foriegn invasion. We also without a thought or public discussion allow NGOs to bring millions of poor, anti-American, relentlessly unassimilating legal immigrants in who require on average about $5000 a month per family to support forever and who cost our school system 250% more to educate then native born Americans. Why? It is such a bizarre act that one could only conclude it is a communist conspiracy to destroy the country. My strategy: Declare a national emergency. Put a military general in charge of securing the Southern border. Put a moratorium on all legal immigration until the borders are 100% secure and all illegals are found and deported. Declare the entire border to be a national monument/park varying in width from a mere 50' in cities to 5 miles or more in the desert and wild part of the border. This would put the federal government in complete control of the land along the border. Make it a felony to be in the country illegally (not just cross the border but to even be here). Make it a policy that anyone caught here illegally must be deported within 24 hours and prior to their deportation that fingerprints and DNA swabs are taken to identify them and they are forever forbidden to enter the country again. Use our substantial federal and state law enforcement including TSA personal to visit workplaces that typically employ illegals (farms, restaurants, contractors, food processing, etc.) and arrest and deport illegals. Fine employers who hire illegals $1000 a day for each illegal they employ. Require the individuals and organizations who brought immigrants into this country to pay for their care not the taxpayer. That would be a good start. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxRhX0k3Tk4
Perhaps this is driving Russian policy (warm water port acquisition)? "I'd like to see the Fed abolished. Gee, I thought I was the only one who felt that way. You nailed it. And I'd much rather have the simple white church on the village green than the "National Cathedral,"which has been reclassified as a museum and is charging admission. See Matthew 21:13. If we could go back in time, it might have been better had we divided the three branches of government into separate capital cities. We still could, but of course won't. Executive in DC, Legislative in St Louis, Judiciary in Salt Lake City?
Ah well. Wood Mosaics Out of Stacked Firewood
Do a Google search for stacked firewood art - it's pretty amazing what can be done with a couple of cord of wood. Regarding The Fed ... I had to stop reading at "make them act a certain way that they choose for them.” WHAT??? They, who? Them, who???
