We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Iraq? We should have left it to Saddam. He understood that craphole same as Quaddaffi did his: government terrorism works better than random, volunteer terrorism. All governments use fear, to varying degrees of barbarity. If some Americans want to bomb bad people, how about bombing the Castros out of Cuba? They have been "Death to America" for generations.
I want to visit Cuba, though, before Capitalism ruins it (and turns it into a new Miami). For the slumming and the cheap stuff and the incredibly beautiful women. Seriously though, for the fishing.
The worthlessness of Obummer's "plan" to deal with ISIS is plain for all to see. He seems to want to lead from behind (again) but there aren't many takers to be one of those in the front.
While I'd like us turn them into a grease spot in the sand, I do think it's time for other good guys to take a larger role in policing the world but without leadership and a plan, nothing is going to be accomplished.
I'd read Michael Totten's stories about Cuba before you get too excited about visiting it as an 'exotic' local. Too many westerners like to play at being vistors to "authentic" countries. Cuba was pretty wealthy with a thriving middle class before Castro and the communists reduced it to poverty.
Don't fall into this trap, Cuba will still be there when the communists are gone and more interesting and rewarding to visit then. Legions of Canadian and European tourists have done nothing but enrich the Castro brothers.
