We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The most expensive train station in New York and the Boston Big Dig must be related. It is always the same answer, corrupt politicians and corrupt corporatists. You could find the same outcome in Chicago or Los Angeles.

"Crispy falafel with flatbread and rice pilaf, and pasta primavera with roasted vegetables and olive oil – two new menu items in District 214’s lineup" Do these two menu items sound like something your 12 year old is likely to ask for at a restaurant if they have a choice? To me they sound like something a 20 something yuppie would ask for to appear hipor urbane. I admit I'm more a meat and potatoes kind of person and no one has ever accused meof being hip and urbane so maybe I'm wrong. I'm guessing pizza and burgers wouldbe popular. Maybe a good meat loaf mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of corn would entice the little crumb snatchers. Perhaps tacos and burritos too. But hummus! Seriously?

People think I've got a phobia when I make this statement. Terrorism was a primary tool for spreading Islam across North Africa in the 7th and 8th centuries.

Raids to capture slaves, rapes, random gruesome murders... Then a closer fort is built for for more raids. Eventually the locals gave up and converted, or agreed to be ruled by Muslims and pay the jizya tax. A few generations later, they are all Muslims.

The tale of two city haters is interesting. Contrary to all the poor delude urban planners, few want to live in their utopian nightmares. Their dense, vertical urban dystopias we have now only exist because of some water boundary and they built up before freedom of travel became more prevalent for the hoi polloi.

Interesting the Progressives promoted the urban sprawl they now lament. It's almost like they really just want to complain.
