We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"The Death of Klinghoffer": "In response, composer John Adams, and librettist Alice Goodman insisted that they were only trying to give “equal voice” to Israel and the PLO." Murderers vs. old man: unequal voices. Old man is not an Israeli. False premises guarantee wrong results.
Peaceful Indians: Rousseau's "Noble Savage" was made up out of his imagination. Why would our ancestors and predecessors be any better than we are?
Swarthmore: Will likely ignore that letter, and send him requests for donations.
"Middle Class is Hobbling the Economy": Subject/object switch.
Liberals Delude Themselves About the Tea Party: And pretty much everything else.
Would you please consider opening a conversation about the relationship between the communist community in this country and corporations. Some may only see it as a way of satisfying the union--but, I have lived through experiences that suggest there is a much deeper connection i.e., China, Russia, etc.
Water is indeed a scarce commodity in the SouthWest but it is wasted at every level. A few years back I lived in an upscale California costal community that was having a "water shortage" so they stopped all new construction for a number of years. But at the same time the golf courses and parks were green and soaking wet everyday. The amount of water they "wasted" was incredible. Another Southern California community I lived in estimated that at least half of the water they put into the city water distribution system leaked into the ground because of old and deteriorating pipes. No worries, these "droughts" are cyclical and in a few years we will get back to floods and mudslides.
Hypermilitarized police departments are more dangerous than whatever they fight.
There was a article (this week) on a lawsuit against the Mass LEC (law enforcement consuls) attempting to evade the open records laws by incorporating as 501C private organizations. So if they fail to avoid disclosing the discussions about how they train their troopers, in particular the SWAT teams, will we find that throwing Flashbangs into private residences in the dead of night is a nifty new tactic?
I cannot understand how any decent human being could toss a explosive device as powerful as a flashbang into a families home as a substitute for identification as police officers. There was a van parked in the driveway with one of those stickers that proclaim the number and breakdown of the family unit; Mother, Father, and four children in decreasing size.
I've never heard of any occasion when a police raid was kicked off by using a flashbang. The child in his crib was burned over most of his body and the flesh was shredded exposing the bones of his ribs.
Police immunity in this type of case must be rescinded.
