We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Interesting read - seeing how our governace is so antiquated, it only reasons that they do need to modernize, and not with adapting technology.
My TLA (three letter agency) is the same way - much too much red tape, bureaucracy, and heavy management maintenance to get even basic stuff done. What is needed is not that 'Do more with less' BS, but accountability, defined responsibility, and 'knowing your envelope'.
Every time I think it can't get worse, somebody comes and brings more 'change', but not the stuff we really need.
Not terrible but I do see he buys into the wholesale party change in the South after 1964. The Left likes attribute this to the migration of the racists, but the Democratic party kept the racists including a lifelong senator who was a Klan member.
A more likely explanation, given the Republican party's attempt to bring civil rights in the 1950s, is the defeat of the Democratic party's paramilitary arm, the various groups that are collectively called the Klu Klux Klan. It was the breaking of the Klan that permitted civil rights to progress in the South, and also, the defeat, freed whites to stray from the Party line. Prior to the 1964, to do business in the South, to avoid a late night cross in your yard, you were at least publicly Democrat. Not unlike so many in Northern Ireland who support/ed Sinn Fein to avoid an IRA visit.
