We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Worst care I have ever received was at the hands of such doctors. My worst mistake was not pulling out my credit card and insisting upon a transfer to a hospital where my personal doctor had rights to see me.
Understand, I work for a hospital. I've been in EMS for too many years to count and I hear about stuff including such doctors.
If this is the wave of the future, I feel sorry for us all...
After 18 years of solo private practice I got sick of being crapped on by our government, and closed up shop in October. I've been doing locum tenens work since then, and have been shocked by what has happened to medicine. There's no OWNERSHIP. No doctor is saying this is MY pateint for whom I am responsible, following the case through. I don't mean you have to sit all night at the bedside to take ownership, but docs now seem to forget all about the patient when their shifts end. It's bad for the patient and bad for the doctor.
