We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I went to Rhode Island as kid to see cousins who lived just off Route 1: Thanksgiving and beach in the summer, and other occasions. I don't recall the state with much fondness- as a cousin said, the state should be renamed Road Island. But I did like Scarborough Beach and the fried clams you could purchase there.
In later years, while driving through Providence, I thought to myself that the strange curves on Route 95 could only be explained by Mafia/corrupt politician land deals. This was decades before Buddy came on the scene.
Rhode Island was slowly overwhelmed by indigent groups/ethnicities who preferred the welfare system to the working class lifestyle. The politicians accommodated these groups in exchange for votes and promised to keep the gravy flowing. The very small population of Rhode Island made it an easy target for the liberals to capture. The prize is two votes in the Senate and two votes in the House. Between the welfare vote and dirty elections those four votes are cheap and assured.
