Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Archive Video Of The D-Day Normandy Landings
http://commoncts.blogspot.com/2014/06/archive-video-of-d-day-normandy-landings.html Grandpa went ashore on D+1, and moved across France until VE Day. He didn't get tagged, thank God... a lot more were less fortunate.
He refused to talk about that war period, except for several blurbs during the winter, which was a shame... He probably had great insight. Talked about N Africa, Italy, and even England during the build-up, but not after Normandy. When asked PRIOR to actually facing the choice between treatment or no treatment, physicians SAY they would choose no treatment. When actually faced with the choice, their actions speak differently. That's my anecdotal experience from many years in a busy oncology practice of what doctors actually do when they are ill versus what they say they would do before they actually develop a terminal illness. There's a BIG difference.
The condom distribution is good. Far to many middle school boys are being punished with a baby because their teacher didn't know about birth control.
Wait, you mean water doesn't let it wash right over. Water no longer goes with the flow. That still waters no longer run deep.
Perhaps our namesake Ms. Paltrow should try labeling the vials in French and see if the water feels more sophisticated. Seriously, you know, if the bad words had been spoken at the water, that would be interesting, but requiring the water to read labels in English -- from the inside -- is nothing short of miraculous!
I thought that also. Human literacy is on the decline, but water....you have to wonder how delicious it would be if it was in a bottle with some Shakespeare written on it.
Be careful though. The following might make water go all Occupied:
"I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree..." Water will be all "You didn't build that". Then flow out into the sun and go all greenhouse gas on us. Then as the sun sets, water's mood will go cloudy and suddenly it will pelt us with millions of tiny squads of molecules. Or hail, likely big hail, cuz as everbody knows, "Everybody must get stoned".

"Sabina has a thousand charms
To captivate my heart; Her lovely eyes are Cupid's arms, And every look a dart: But when the beauteous idiot speaks, She cures me of my pain; Her tongue the servile fetters breaks And frees her slave again." --Anon., from Amphion Anglicus (1700) "Reports in Central America Encourage Trek North"
Who could have possibly predicted this result of not enforcing our immigration laws? In fact everyone knew that this would happen and the only conclusion an honest person could come to is that this is intentional. The Democrats and some Republicans do indeed want to flood the country with illegals. Various black leaders and black organizations have come out and said they want massive illegal immigration so that "whitey" becomes the minority. We have choosen to allow illegals to enter the country and stay and we dangle an irresistable offer of money, free health care and other benefits that these people from poor contries cannot resist. Once here our Supreme Court in it's infinite wisdom has decided that they are due anything and everything that an actual citizen could qualify for regardless of cost bot economic and social. So estimates are we have 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens here today and with the realization that our borders are unguarded and our law enforcement is only enforcing the law against actual citizens this number could skyrocket to 20-40 million in a few years. Then in a few years more it will be 40-60 million and in a few years more ... But do not forget this is not an accident or an unintended consequence or the result of despotic dictators in Mexico and elsewhere. This is an intentional effort to fundamentally change America for the benefit or detriment of someone. This is an intentional destruction of our country by elected officials, life long bureaucrats and special interest groups. You will often hear that "you cannot deport 20 million people and they won't self deport". Certainly that is true if no effort is made to actually do that. What needs to be done first is to make it a felony to be in this contry illegally. Then enforce the law including charging anyone who provides aid or assistance to anyone here ilegally. Real prison sentences for hiring ilegals, providing housing to them or distributing public funds in any way. Additionally set a policy that anyone who comes here ilegally can never become a citizen and after they are deported can never enter this contry again for any reason. When they are caught, photograph, finger print and DNA sample them to make sure they are not criminals and then deport them. If they choose to self deport they would be free to walk across the border (or fly etc.) without any legal action. Then let's see how many self deport. Feminists are fighting for the legalization of a drug that makes women sleepy and horny?
No wonder they think Paltrow is a genius. It's hard to find a doctor who can make the transition between trying everything to effect a cure and trying everything to make an inevitable death no less torturous than necessary. Our society tends to handle the transition by switching from an ordinary doctor to a hospice service, but that causes its own problems. For one thing, it's not always obvious when it's time to give up hope of a cure.
For another, patients fear the hospice designation, not only because it requires facing a terrible truth, but because they sense--probably correctly--that once they're labeled "terminal" they'll be subject to rigid rules about what interventions are palliative and what are curative, even if a curative intervention is reasonably necessary to improve the quality of life in the last few weeks or months. Also, many doctors lose interest and distance themselves emotionally once the puzzle of diagnosis and cure is off the table. Many simply abandon the patient, after which there's no guarantee that the new hospice doctor will pay any attention to speak of. The hospice workers do the best they can without the active involvement of a doctor, but they are legally constrained in some ways. Nevertheless, hospice has been a godsend for half a dozen of my relatives and friends, and in my experience nearly always is called in months later than would have been wise and merciful for the patient and the family. In-home hospice care has helped many people die in reasonable care and dignity at home. No one should have to die in a hospital unless the death occurs in the middle of a pitched battle that at every moment presents the chance of a cure. The hospice care that I am familiar with is palliative care with occasional visits by a nurse to asses the patient's condition. We were told that we could not call 911 if the patient became much worse and that once placed in hospice the hospital would no longer admit them. Hospices was in effect home delivery of pain killer until the patient expired. Was it better (more dignity) then if the patient were to be in a hospital? Yes, especially in the early stages. But there was little else but the waiting for death knowing that if it were peaceful or dramatic that the doctors and emergency medical care were not available and it was up to the caregiver to slog through whatever happened. Thankfully both my father and mother in law passed peacefully because I'm not sure what we would have done if they went into convulsions or coughing up blood ot whatever? Having seen hospice I truely think I would prefer a 357 to the head.
Viagra enhances performance in the presence of desire generated independently by the male. The "gender bias" complaint no doubt bemoans the failure of the patriarchy to produce a pill that enhances desire, something that is not an objective of Viagra.
There is indeed something that enhances the desire and sexual enjoyment and performance in women; Money. Oops! Can I say that? Women prefer to marry a wealthy man then a poor man. They would rather date a doctor then a mechanic.
