We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Limoncello

I mailed a bottle of Sicilian Limoncello to Roger de Hauteville. Hope he likes this product of his ancestral homeland. Best when chilled in my view. My Italian in-laws are fond of it. Me? Not so much. And Grappa, I feel, is even worse but the Italians love that stuff too.


When it comes to lemon flavor, I can munch a big Sicilian lemon just picked from the tree as if it were an orange. Deliciously sweet zing.

Limoncello and Grappa are both entirely distasteful. It's all about tradition though, which is fine by me....

Au contraire, mon frère! Here's why.

1/2 cup whipping cream
4 oz Mascarpone cheese
1 1/2 oz Limoncello
3 Tbs confectioners sugar
6 mini-mini pastry shells, baked
1/2 cup raspberry jam

Whip first 4 ingredients until thick and creamy.
Place 1 1/2 Tbs jam on bottom of shell.
Top with whipped mixture.

Mangia,mangia!

Better make several batches. A little lemon zest on top looks good too.

My Italian wife makes Limoncello, and she and her half-Italian offspring practically inhale it. Gringo me and my gringo sons-in-law leave it alone. I think there's a taste bud gene at work.
