Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Dog of the Week: Pudelpointer

A versatile sporting breed, the Pudelpointer is a mix of Poodle (aka Water Spaniel) and English Pointer.

I have a buddy who has two of them. Good family dogs, strong retrievers and pointers. Unlike Poodles, they like water retrieving. Unlike workaholic Pointers, they are family pets.

There are not many of them, so the gene pool is thin.

The less rare German Wirehaired Pointer (the Drahthaar) is a mix of Pudelpointer with several other German sporting breeds.

How big? Kind of funny proportions (longer fur would even out the contrast between barrel chest and spindly legs), but nice and intelligent stance. Does it shed? My golden is prettier, altho he is untrainable (even the trainers said so) so we never bred him, for fear of adding more disobedient golden retriever genes to the pool. Also, the shedding is out of control (fill up a Dyson with just the living room area rug fur)

Thay shed some, not bad. if you are not a hunter don't try to buy one, thay are a hunting dog. breaders want to keep it that way and do not sell as pets!
