We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Here’s a shocking idea: liberals should be liberal, especially on college campuses. To be truly liberal, you must endorse the free exchange of ideas. The university doesn’t exist to swaddle students in a protective cocoon, safe from any possible offense, insult, or challenge to their beliefs. It exists, in part, to prepare students for the rough-and-tumble of real life. It cannot do so by coddling students and warding off any possible “triggers” that could upset them. By practicing illiberal liberalism, colleges are failing in yet another way to prepare students adequately for real life.
It is amazing to me that this is still an issue that the left wants to talk about, but then that just shows how separated they are from reality.
There was no evidence that the charges against the lacrosse team members were true, the woman who made those charges subsequently went from one legal problem to another finally culminating in her conviction of murder. In fact, she didn't have a very sterling history before her accusations.
The prosecutor, Mike Nifong, was disbarred over ethics violations. His case against the lacrosse players was thrown out and not only were they judged not guilty but rather innocent.
After all that, the faculty members who put out a full page ad in the school newspaper implying the players were guilty (and certainly that racism is rampant - with anybody but them, of course) have still not retracted the ad (but many of them did 'clarify' it later - without noting Nifong's malfeasance or the accuser's legal issues).
There is absolutely nothing about this case that supports their narrative, but the fact that they still bang on this drum should be a real wake up call to those who had banged it with them in the past. I'm not optimistic.
All, ALL, foods we eat are been genetically modified over the centuries. Apparently it is the GMO action by 'unfit' companies that are the issue. So in other words, it is just another form of political correctness and nothing else.
Thanks to GMO crops use less water, require less fertilizer and have improved pest resistance. Those seem like good things to me.
Food fussiness is just another puritanical obsession. Damned puritans!
It should be pretty simple to test one of these computerized climate models. Plug in known data from year X (say 50 years ago), turn the crank, and see if it predicts the current climate. When that can be done, then that model is worthy of discussion only but still not to be trusted for policy decisions.
Those are similar to Japanese tabi, and were used by the Imperial Army during WW2.
The dismounted enlisted man wears ... Rubber soled black canvas tabi often are carried as a second pair of shoes, especially in warm weather. Most, although not all, tabi have split toes, which serve no special purpose but are characteristic of many Japanese shoes. The soles have ridge-like cleats under the ball of the foot for better traction.
That Keystone protester is president of the Lakota Souix, who've long tried to have the pipeline redirected off their land. When he says "we are ready to die" I wonder if he was referring to the Sioux specifically, and not the envirowackos generally.
