Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

" Michelle Obama: America's Moms Are 'Confused and Bewildered,' 'Defeated' by Grocery Shopping "
I am really not certain who is more stupid. The Moocher? Or Duh!1? Hard to tell.... Well, neither Bush nor Powell were wrong. Powell was just more discerning than Bush as to the nature of Putin's religion and god.
MO: Start of Moron. Don't now if it's a mouth problem or a brain problem, but I'm going for both as she's a leftie. Most of us ignore nutrition labels as useless.
Cocoon would indicate that we might expect something more mature, even beautiful will eventually emerge. A better summation would be
Putin pulls Washington's Head out of its... "Michelle Obama: America's Moms Are 'Confused and Bewildered,' 'Defeated' by Grocery Shopping". Holy crap, is our chief nutritionist and weight control czarina really telling us that American women are stupid, helpless, house pets? I think she really is. Oh well, so much for letting women vote. That privilege needs to be rescinded immediately. As would driving anything more complex than a bicycle, operating heavy machinery, becoming doctors, running for elected office and service in the military. To name just a few of the activities women are not smart enough to do. This must be true, Michelle said so. I had long wondered which of the seemingly conflicted social narratives more accurately portrayed the true nature of the female. Where they strong, intelligent, independent and filled with leadership potential? Or were they victims, helpless in most circumstances and in need of special protections? It seems Michelle has settled this matter. Now, get back in the kitchen and try not to burn yourself on the stove, you silly wenches.
"Germany’s Energiewende: A Path to Economic Self-Destruction". You have to give the German's credit. They have mostly rebuilt the eastern half of the country from what was essentially the ruins of WW2 and have managed to stay warm through the extremely rash decision to close all of it's electricity generating nuclear plants. What challenge can't the Germans handle? It seems the near future may hold another difficult test. Can the Germans manage the unfolding probability of regional armed conflict? Can they lead the dozens of weak nations inside the EU and outside of the EU in a major diplomatic effort to curb the howling dogs of war? Or will they be called upon, out of sheer necessity, to lead a military effort against the east? We live in interesting times.
Several days ago someone here at MF asked the question: "when did you leave academia?"
For me there were several plateaus before racing toward the exit. First: In 1992 my husband had been working for 5 years in the country's most liberal private college to build a new program. When the new academic dean (two weeks on the job and on campus) took him out for coffee and said, "I want to put a black woman in your job--I can get you any job you want in town." Meaning of course any job he wanted at any of the major universities, including UW. What we didn't know at the time was that she was the white wife of an African/American man, both of whom were very active (panthers?) in the early years of the African/American community in WA state. Both of whom had already been heavily funded by public funds to build a new and failing state university. In a leadership role on that state campus she had acted against all except a docile few with such brutality that she needed to be taken off campus--thus the job at a private school, while her husband went on to become academic dean at the state university. It wasn't the unusual offer in itself that was so startling, after all he had done so well and the department he was in charge of had grown so much under his leadership, the offer did not make any sense--it was the next seven years of horrible abuse my husband and I endured because he refused to comply with her wishes. Yup, those rich white folks in WA are terrified of their black community, which is why we now have the o in the white house. Same money, same value system. I'm confused about your commentary. Granted, I know nothing about the inner workings of the white/ivory tower institutions. Except perhaps that it is considered to be more prestigious for professors to publish, than it is to instruct. With the most successful professors teaching no classes at all. With this sort of reward system in place my sympathy for college professors is minimal to begin with. From your comment, it seems that your troubles could have been avoided if your husband accepted another position, presumably higher up in the pecking order, when it was offered to him on a silver platter. So, maybe you have to move, so what? What was the hangup? You expect maybe some integrity? Pride got injured a bit? Just to be sure I have this correct, maybe you might like to see another welfare program for college professors who have been traumatized by political machinations in their chosen career field? I'm sorry it happened to you and I hope you do well. But you know, even priests have to endure political games in the church. Pretty much everyone does. Finally, please rethink the amount of specific personal information you offer in your comments. The wide, wide world of the web is not any friendlier than college administrators. Cheers.
Yes, I used to tell him that also--but, the program he built was a new way of seeing things. If you know who I am, or of what I speak you know that to be true. This "new way" has now been adopted by most major universities--Stanford included. The first mistake was his. But, the seven years of abuse that followed was unconscionable.
Seven years later--another new female (LGBT) came onto campus and publicly announced his resignation without every having discussed it with him prior to the announcement. During those seven years the program had grown into one of the top 10 at US World News. We then tried to leave as this new gal had broken the contract and we were soo tired of the harassment. BUT, by that time the owners of the campus wouldn't let him go!!! NOT FREE TO LEAVE until we allowed them to put the name of his replacement on his own work. Until we allowed them to apply for federal research money using my husband's name as the only qualified person on the app. NOT FREE TO LEAVE UNTIL WE STAYED AND MADE his replacement look like she was something she was not. The abuse continues. We tried to leave with grace and THEY REFUSED to let him go! You see my husband was not only the department chair, he also taught much of the curriculum. Why is that you ask? Well, because the three women on his faculty were not qualified in the field! They taught when they felt like it, and didn't teach when they didn't feel like it. One gal decided in August not to teach the following year--just like that no conversation, no warning, and NO WAY to fire her ass! Perhaps, this is an insight into academic life that you have not been shown before-- Vermont is a beautiful state, but last year my son and I spent some time there on a college tour, and at one point during the trip we left the highway for an unscheduled rest stop. The little town we drove through seemed so depressed. I can't remember the name of the town, but it came to mind when I saw the post about the Rutland problem. There were several derelict looking characters hanging at a small park by the Dunkin Donuts, and as we drove back to the highway, we passed a couple on the sidewalk who were arguing loudly, and it erupted into a brawl. It was mid morning.
WC:
It is my intention to show the growth of liberal abuse as it has developed over the years. I DO appreciate your concern for my well being. Thank you. You are welcome faculty wife, as my concern for your well being is sincere. And, for what it's worth, I commend your intentions. However, if I may, it might help your message to take one half step back from your first person version of events in favor of a broader perspective. To be sure, there are abuses and persecutions and atrocities associated with the madcap progressive movement. We have all seen the undercover videos made by those two young people who crushed the ACORN organization. But, office politics, even if it involves gays or persons of color, can just be office politics. So, drawing a distinction between what may be 'liberal' political motivations and the usual motivations of office politics may be one area to focus on. Anyway, be well.
Interesting read on how the "educated" atheists try to define a new, better world, without God, while conveniently completely ignoring much of history. First, citing the beauty of nature. Christians have been exploring the world and creating beauty for over 1500 years. Building and decorating churches improved architecture, sculpture, and painting. The first book printed was the Bible. Music was documented so it could be sung. The church provided structure and countered some abuses (while certainly being also guilty of some abuses) of kings (Thomas More and Thomas Beckett for example). Scientific knowledge grew the most in a culture based on radical love, selflessness, and acceptance of the beauty and need to understand creation. They also mention religion reaching out only to like people. Really??? They've never heard of Spanish priests exploring the New World to share the Gospel or missionaries??? For all the "crimes" of religion, I can easily counter with the crimes of Pol Pat, Hitler, Stalin, ect., and that's just the last century. For, the big challenge atheists have to face is the question of: why be moral? Dictators don't see a law or rule bigger than the power they can amass. Believers in God do. It's great to be good because it's the "right thing to do" but I find it hard to be convinced that morality comes anywhere, except from God...largely because I know how easy it is for me to be a selfish, somewhat rotten person, without strong forces vectoring me towards the right path.
"Can human nature be discussed on campus? "
No more or less than in a conservative forum. If you don't agree with the narrow minded point of view of the majority you're shouted down and called names. It's only the narrow minded point of view that's different... Just try saying something positive about homosexuals or transgender people in your typical conservative community, like even here... "Man sues McDonald´s for $1.5 million after being given only one napkin" Seems nobody noticed the obvious: every McD I've ever seen has napkin dispensers all over the place where people can get more if they want them. For WC:
I understand the grace you wish me to strive for, but I find I am not able to tell the story for it's accuracy without referring to the various camps, tribes, interest groups, etc. that evolved during these years. I know of no other way to describe the individuals behavior without identifying their purpose or intention. For each of the abusers came from separate groups and each was more concerned with demonstrating the growing power of "their" group against straight white males, and their straight white wives. For example after working there for six or seven years I heard that it was possible to obtain funding for your spouse to attend classes at other schools. Classes that were not offered on that campus. My husband's administrative assistant for years was a member of the lesbian community. A really good human being she had been able to take advantage of this program for her significant other to attend school across town. We believed that if the administrative assistant to could get this benefit then surely the wife of the department chair should be able to obtain the same benefit. WHen I went down to the HR department. I met with one of the original founders of that campus, she was a very aggressive feminist divorced three or four times. When I asked for the benefit application she put her hand over the benefits book and told me very clearly: "No deals for women like you". Meaning no deals for WASP housewives who loved their husbands. You see WC I was from that much hated group "housewife". So it is important to realize the political focus of each of these individuals and the perfect storm their groups have created in their drive toward total power. Well, don't look now but I think you just did what you thought you could not do. You just presented a terrific description of life under the PC tyranny. A more effective indictment against the evils of political correctness, I cannot recall reading. And, you did it without using any identifying details. Thank you very much.
Your account is real, substantive, convincing and inspiring. I have encountered similar situations in my personal life. I am sure many others have as well. Some people, by virtue of various politically/legally bestowed privileges, rule the roost. They enjoy, under color of law and in the name of equality, superior rank and privilege in our society. Those who do not enjoy those special protections or reject them, are relegated to some lesser denomination and are with impunity, treated like shit. This is what happens when the urge to produce equality of opportunity inevitable transforms itself into a crudely wielded political hammer to achieve equality of result. Turning leftist sociological/political theory into reality outside of the classroom always results in casualties and this is only the beginning. Atheist; "refers to persons not inclined toward religious belief or a particular form of religious belief.", "a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings."
This conventional definition is what I think of when I hear the word atheist. But these neo-atheists are not just skeptics and non-believers. They are proselytizing their neo-atheist "religion". A true atheist wouldn't care what someone else thinks they would be confident in their own beliefs and ignore religion. Clearly there is something more going on here. Something that pushes some atheists to seek the public spotlight and deliver sermons to those who don't believe what they believe. You have to wonder what the real agenda is. |
