Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Sounds like Iowa students believe in neither science or history, which ties in with the Reeves essay.

Planned Parenthood grooming future playmates?

Economic degrowth, ok, who pays for it? Though the idea of smaller, cheaper homes tickles the frugal plain living nerve cluster.

Banning offensive US Flag t-shirts makes sense if the idea is to get thru the workday without that tiresome business of maintaining order in school. Though would I say that if the ban was of Aryan Nation or Aztlan shirts?

Structual racism, well guess thats one way to make a living and gain entry into the chattering class.

It is OK to ban the American flag from school because it might cause illegal aliens to commit violent acts! Did I get that right? Clearly it is past time to impeach judges from this far left court.

Houses: In '73, I was living in an apartment. Bought my first house in '75, ~1500sqft. Second in '78, ~1750. What I have now is ~2800, but it's old, and had been added onto at least 3 times.

Another important item from this week's news is the story about the Republicans stopping the Veteran's benefits bill from passing. Google "veterans benefits bill" and you get any number of reports on the issues. One Republican even stated very clearly that he was against the bill because "it included $2M for rape counseling" and also included fertility treatments. One must question the insanity of this action in probably the most critical election year of our collective lives.
But, SHEESH ! WHEN o WHEN will the Republicans learn one very important fact--if you are going to do something this suicidal at least make sure that EVERY member of your party has been primed for it. You know like a good lawyer will sit you down and practice, practice, practice, just exactly what you are going to say when you testify. This country has a Republican party with absolutely no sense of the importance of the 30 second sound bite. With egos so huge that they do not need to practice just how they are going to present their reasoning in such a way that makes sense. EVERY time they are interviewed by the press--EACH time they are interviewed by the press! This might just be the best thing they can do for this country this year--given that they have already lost the election !!

Scanned a few recent editions of the Marine, Army and Navy Times yesterday and let me tell you, there is no mystery in the active duty or retired ranks about who is getting screwed with the recent cuts. Nor is there any mystery about who is getting paid more. The general officer corps will keep it's inflated and recently boosted pay, benefits and retirement benefits. The lowest paid and compensated will bear the burden - as they always do. The republicans can kiss every election good-bye. Hell, even that nutcase Sen. Sanders sounded more rational on the C-Span broadcast than the republicans did. If you choose to put the best people in the country into war, stupid war or good war, you better expect to pay for it on the back end also.

I'm thinking about organizing a regiment or two of retired, broken down and PTSD'd vets for a liberation romp through Cuba. Set up shop and make it a nice retirement community with investment opportunities. Anyone else love my idea?
