Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Our cabins, last week

There are three of our family cabins in the photo, in the Sierras not too far from Donner Pass

Great pix, as always. The only consolation I can offer is that the snow melt will find its way down to draught-plagued California.

Ah, the silence. Be worth the dig to get into 'em. I'm having trouble spotting the other two. That's not a bad thing.

Does it fall that deep, or is it drifted?

Is one cabin in the left mid-ground in front of the visible cabin with a sort of snow boulder at the roof peak, and the other one behind the visible cabin with the roof only showing as a dark patch at the roofline of the visible cabin?

With apologies to whoever has to shovel, this is good news. The snowpack was looking pretty thin and this snow is looking pretty good.

I sent the pic to a friend of mine who has cabins on a property near Soda Springs.

He says:

"That could well be our cabins but it isn't because we haven't had that much snow this winter so far.

I've snow shoed in 8 miles and walked onto my cabin roof. It's tough to take the chimney cap off when you have to dig down to find it.

So we don't get in in the winter."

And they're crying the blues out East?? They're a bunch of wimps on the East coast, always thinking they have the worst conditions, in the Midwest we had record setting days of zero or below and snow every other day, but just keep plugging away, without a big commotion!!

Photo was 2011 - sent without explanation to an editorial assistant at the blog's city desk, and she made an assumption in the caption.
